Chapter 636: Can’t Bear to Leave Big Sis
"Grandpa, is there anywhere you’re feeling unwell?" Xu Minglei helped feed water to the shrimp for his grandpa, feeling a deep sadness as he watched him.
"I’m fine." Grandpa shook his head. He’s lived long enough to call it a full life, and even if he died, he’d have no regrets. Living only seemed to be a burden to his sons.
But he still wanted to see his little grandson get married, although he figured he probably wouldn’t make it, and that was one reason he was still holding on.
Xu Mumu and the others chatted with Grandpa for a while, and when they saw that Grandpa was not looking too well, they left so as not to disturb him and let him rest.
Xu Mumu asked her uncle about Grandpa’s health, and the more she learned, the more upset she became. Grandpa’s condition wasn’t looking good at all.
The most important thing was that Grandpa wasn’t sad about getting treatment. He felt he was a burden to the family.
"Uncle, try to reassure Grandpa more." Xu Minglei also furrowed his brow.
"Don’t worry, we all know." Uncle patted Xu Minglei on the shoulder. Such matters shouldn’t be a young man’s concern, but he was pleased to see their filial piety.
The lunch prepared at the Li Family’s place was still quite sumptuous. Xu Mumu chatted with a few of her cousins-in-law; they were curious about how things were in the provincial capital, and Xu Mumu answered all their questions one by one.
Time always flew when chatting with the Li Family. In the afternoon, they went again to see Grandpa, who seemed a little more spirited. Since the Li Family had no spare rooms for them to stay, Xu Mumu and the others had already planned to go back and stay at the old house.
After saying goodbye to the Li Family, Xu Mumu and her brother were both in low spirits.
"It’s okay, don’t worry, Grandpa will surely get better slowly." Yin Yang gently comforted Xu Mumu. He still had to drive, otherwise, he would have loved to hug his little wife and comfort her properly.
"I know." Xu Mumu nodded.
Along the way, even the little one could see that Mom was not in a good mood and behaved quietly without making a fuss.
Back at the Xu Family’s place, Old Xu and the others had already prepared the rooms, knowing that Xu Mumu and the others would be returning to stay.
"Gramps, Uncle!" The little one immediately ran off to play with Xu Mingfeng and the others.
"Doudou, come on, let’s go outside and play." Fengfeng held Doudou’s hand to take him out to play.
"Okay." The little one said happily.
"Go ahead, but be safe." Looking at the little one, Yin Yang spoke gently.
"How’s it going? Is the in-law’s health all right?" Old Xu looked at the worried faces of Xu Mumu and the others and asked with some concern.
"Not so good." Xu Mumu said softly.
Old Xu also didn’t know how to comfort them. Everyone had to go through this stage in life. He and the old lady were also getting old; luckily, they seemed to be in good health and could probably live for a few more years.
But how do you say such things? They don’t sound good when said out loud.
"Don’t worry, Grandpa will surely be fine. Do you want me to contact a hospital in the provincial capital? Maybe then Grandpa’s illness can be cured." Yin Yang said gently to Xu Mumu.
"They’ve already been to a hospital in the provincial capital. Forget it, Grandpa probably doesn’t want to go anymore." Xu Mumu said helplessly.
In the evening, dinner was at the fourth house. The kids had been playing wildly outside all afternoon, and the little one came back all dirty, but fortunately, Xu Mumu had brought several changes of clothes.
"Where did you go to get so dirty?" Xu Mumu wiped the dirty little face of the little one, asking helplessly. At the moment, she couldn’t even think about Grandpa’s situation.
"Sister, we went to the Big Girl’s place to play. Their cat had three kittens, so cute." Fengfeng said excitedly.
"And we caught loaches." The little one also said happily.
It was catching loaches that got them so dirty.
"Did you catch any?" Xu Mumu asked with a slight chuckle. There were many kids in the village, and these two were able to play so happily with them, so Xu Mumu thought she should bring them to play more often.
"Brother Qingshan caught two, it was amazing." Fengfeng exclaimed with even more excitement, having had a blast catching loaches.
"Really? If you like it, next time I’ll take you net fishing." Xu Mumu said with a smile. Even though there weren’t many fish in the river at the village entrance, it was still a favorite spot for the kids to play.
"Sister, you can fish with a net?" Fengfeng looked at his sister with sparkling eyes.
"Of course, I can. I used to spear fish with a fork and could catch a fish in one go." Xu Minglei said proudly, thinking his sister was the best.
"That’s right, Big Sister is the best." Xu Jiaojiao came over with some persimmon cakes.
"Fourth Sister, I want some." Fengfeng reached out as soon as he saw the food; he was also hungry after playing outside for so long.
"Fourth Aunt." The little one also looked at Xu Jiaojiao expectantly.
"These persimmon cakes were made by my mom, try them, they’re especially for you." Xu Jiaojiao was also fond of her little nephew.
With the persimmon cakes, the two little ones quickly started eating them up.
"Big Sis, how long are you going to stay at home?" Xu Jiaojiao munched on her own cake and asked, hoping that Big Sis would stay forever.
"We’re heading back tomorrow. What’s up? Will you miss me?" Xu Mumu asked with a smile, pinching the younger girl’s cheek, as Xu Jiaojiao was her favorite sister after Xu Minglei.
The young girl had grown a lot, though she still had some baby fat on her face. Looking at her round face, Xu Mumu couldn’t resist giving it a pinch, and it felt just as nice as she imagined.
"That soon? I thought you were going to stay for a few days." Xu Jiaojiao said disappointedly, already missing her Big Sister.
"Don’t worry, I’ll be back for the New Year." Xu Mumu replied with a smile.
"But that’s still more than half a month away." Xu Jiaojiao pouted.
"It’ll be here soon enough. My place still needs me; Sir Jian and the others are all there, I can’t just leave them unattended." Xu Mumu said warmly.
"That’s true. Asking Sir Jian and the others to come over, they surely wouldn’t want to, sigh." Xu Jiaojiao sighed. Her Big Sister was married now, with many family members already, who could take them to play and learn at any time. She really missed the old days.
"All right, stop sighing. Come play at my place after the New Year." Xu Mumu said with a smile, knowing that although the young girl acted mature outside, she was still a little girl at home.
"No, I have to help my dad prune the fruit trees at home. My parents are too busy to handle it all. It’s hard to get a vacation, but we still need to help with the work." Xu Jiaojiao shook her head.
