Chapter 614: Visiting the Du Family
"Don’t worry, I understand now. I always take an assistant with me when I go out," Du Yu nodded earnestly, really taking Xu Mumu’s words to heart.
Xu Mumu looked into the factory matters here. So much had changed in such a short time that she barely recognized the factory they had built together with Du Yu.
"Mom?" The little boy looked at his mom, puzzled as to why she wasn’t speaking.
"Is Doudou hungry? Come to my place for a meal; my mom knows you’re here and has already gone back to cook," Du Yu said with a cheerful smile at the mother and son.
Thinking back to his school days, his thoughts seemed so childish now.
If it weren’t for those thoughts back then, he might not know where he is now. His dad has some connections; it wouldn’t have been difficult to place him in another state-run unit after the shoe factory failed. frёeweɓηovel.coɱ
If it weren’t for meeting Xu Mumu and being pushed to learn so much by her, he wouldn’t have the achievements he has now.
"Eat, cake," upon hearing about food, the little boy eagerly looked at Du Yu.
"Alright, let’s go eat cake, Doudou. How about uncle carries you?" Du Yu found the little boy so cute that he couldn’t resist holding him.
The little guy hesitated a bit for the food, then reached out his hands to let Du Yu carry him. After all, he knew this person and often received treats from him, so it didn’t matter.
"This little rascal," Xu Mumu said with a playful scold, seeing how easily a treat could win him over.
Thankfully, the little boy doesn’t eat food from strangers; otherwise, she’d have some headaches.
Since the little guy compromised, Xu Mumu had no choice but to join them for the meal.
Earlier, Qin Jie mentioned making a meal and had already invited Xu Mumu to stay for it.
"I wish my son were as well-behaved as yours; at home, he’s a real handful." Speaking about his son, Du Yu complained, as the boy ran around everywhere, not returning until he was covered in dirt.
Du Yu’s family lived in the same house as before, once part of the shoe factory accommodation, surrounded by many families. His wife, currently pregnant, stayed home to watch their child and did some household chores.
However, their little boy was quite mischievous and not at all obedient.
Seeing Doudou this well-behaved, Du Yu thought of taking him back home to raise.
Xu Mumu chuckled without saying much; how Du Yu raised his child was up to him.
"Mumu, why not let Doudou be my godson?" Du Yu said brightly, carrying Doudou a few steps and then turning expectantly to Xu Mumu. The more he thought about it, the better the idea seemed.
"In your dreams," Xu Mumu glared at him. Even Huo Qingze wanted to be godfather to her son, and Yin Yang disagreed, let alone Du Yu.
"You won’t even consider it?" Du Yu looked at Xu Mumu, speechless; the rejection was so straightforward.
"Of course not. My son has us, that’s enough—no need for a godfather," Xu Mumu replied calmly.
Du Yu rolled his eyes, not wanting to talk anymore.
At the Du family house, Du Yu’s wife was wiping their son’s face, which was dirty. The boy didn’t want his mom cleaning him, preferring to play, but she held him to stop him running off.
Xu Mumu walked in holding Doudou, and Du Yu’s wife gave her a smile before continuing to clean her child’s face, embarrassed that he was so dirty with guests around.
"Mumu, you’re here! Come, sit down; the fruit I washed will be ready soon," Qin Jie said as she came out to greet the mother and son.
"Thank you, Mrs. Qin. Doudou, say hello to Madam Qin," Xu Mumu nodded with a smile, prompting her son to greet.
The little guy sweetly called out, "Qin, granny," tilting his head to look at Qin Jie.
His adorable appearance made Qin Jie absolutely adore him.
Soon, Qin Jie returned from the kitchen holding a fruit platter.
With the fruit platter set down, Qin Jie invited Xu Mumu and Du Yu to enjoy it.
The little boy grabbed a green jujube and started munching, not needing Xu Mumu to cut it into small pieces.
Now that the little guy was older, he ate without needing Xu Mumu to prepare it; he often fed himself with grown teeth, making gnawing easy.
During meals, he didn’t need anyone to feed him; he simply held a spoon and ate on his own, Xu Mumu just needed to serve him dishes, and he reached for non-spicy foods himself.
On the other hand, Du Yu’s child still needed to be fed by his mom and demanded this and that, being picky.
Without comparisons, there are no consequences; Du Yu looked at his son, feeling to himself that after Xu Mumu’s visit, he’d need to put more effort into his child.
Earlier, he thought his son was still young, so feeding him wasn’t a big deal.
But seeing how Doudou, a year younger, eats by himself, well-behaved and quiet.
Doudou is generally well-behaved outside, rarely causing trouble, except at home where he’s lively.
If Yin Yang hadn’t strengthened the house interior, the boy would have torn it apart.
After having lunch at the Du house, the little guy was due for a nap, so Xu Mumu didn’t linger there and took Doudou home by bike.
Upon returning home, Professor Song and his companions were there, their classes had become fewer and less frequent trips to the lab, all to spend time with Doudou.
"Grandpa, haven’t you gone for a nap yet?" Xu Mumu asked with a smile, the little guy in her arms already dozing. His schedule was very regular.
"We were just waiting for you guys, oh dear, our Doudou is sleepy. Let me take him for a nap," Professor Song immediately said.
"No need, Grandpa. This little guy bothers you when he’s around; after he wakes, you can take him anywhere to play," Xu Mumu said with a helpless smile, as they always took turns taking care of Doudou.
"Alright, alright, you better take Doudou inside to sleep, don’t wake our little one," Professor Song agreed, being older, he didn’t need much sleep.
Doudou was carried inside by Xu Mumu, who removed his coat. As it wasn’t summer yet, there was still a chill outside, so she didn’t want him catching cold; after removing the coat, she tucked him into bed.
With his mom’s comforting presence, the little guy stayed in deep sleep without waking, resting soundly.
Xu Mumu chuckled softly, lying down beside him. Whenever Yin Yang wasn’t home, she tended to sleep with the little guy. If Yin Yang was there, the boy would sleep in his room on his small bed.
