Chapter 5: Down a Hole
Ren stayed on the ground for a bit longer, he looked at the sky through the canopy of trees. He stayed for a bit too long.
What?
Allow him to stay, he has been through a lot, to be honest. He is still a baby, a baby with a pretty mature mind.
’I wonder what Louis will do with my stuff. Ouiiiii, I just remembered I ordered a life-size cutout of Mikasa in a swimsuit.’ Ren jumped to his feet.
"Ahhhh, he is definitely going to think I am weird."
[You currently have more pressing issues.]
"Ay? You can speak to me normally?" he asked when he heard the system speak, but it did not respond.
"Tch, do what you want."
Rumble
His stomach sang out again, like he had not just eaten, but he had, a whole wolf. What was happening in his digestive system? That was definitely not normal.
"I’m hungry again? That can’t be normal." He looked around. He saw the remains of the wolf, but those were the nasty parts, he didn’t want them. He was acting like he had a lot of choices.
"Just have to find some food, no biggie, as long as it’s not some wolf that will chase me to my death like the last one."
He looked around calmly, like that did anything to help. He could not see jack shit that could help. So he decided to wing it, allow the winds to take him where they wanted.
He strutted through the forest floor while singing a tune that he had just thought of for himself a few moments ago.
"I am a big dragon, big dragon, big dragon, I am a big dragon who breathes out fire."
An entire song that contradicted everything he currently was, he did not even know if he had any sort of fire to breathe.
But the tune kept him going as he moved, and it silenced the hunger in his stomach.
Squeee!
He heard the sound of a rodent, and like instinct, his head snapped in that direction. He saw a three-eyed squirrel at the base of a tree, it was stuffing some nuts from the ground into its mouth while looking at Ren, almost like it was taunting him.
"Tch." Ren straightened his back, a few bones popped like he was an old man, and then he poured everything into his limbs, shooting forward fast. He flapped his wings to make him go faster, it actually worked.
He crossed the distance fast, but the squirrel managed to react. It rushed up the tree as fast as a rat running for its life, well, I guess that’s what it was, a rat with suspiciously wide cheeks and a puffy tail.
"You’re not getting away, you little snack!" Ren yelled and flapped his wings harder, shooting off the ground into the air. He used Glide and made sure he controlled how he flew.
He made it up the side of the tree fast and then dove in. The squirrel that had thought it got away turned around and saw a dragon about to grab it.
It tried to move, but it was not fast enough. Ren’s nails dug in deep and pierced the heart of the squirrel from outside, killing it instantly.

Before Ren could even begin to eat, the system interrupted him.
"A skill? Haha, yes, but wait, did I not kill the grey wolf?"
[It jumped to its death.]
"Tch, so that doesn’t count, I guess. Well, either way, this is good, let’s see what this new skill does."
He thought about activating the skill and it worked. His eyes suddenly dilated to allow more light in. In an instant, he could see over five hundred to six hundred feet away. And he could see in full detail.
Every little critter, every movement in the direction he was looking. The information rushed into his brain fast, but somehow he was able to manage it all, maybe because he had an adult mind? If that was a good enough reason, well, he didn’t know. This was all new.
"I can surely take down more three-eyed squirrels this way," he said happily, but after keeping the eyes on for an extended time, he felt exhausted and hungry, so he stopped it and turned his attention back to the squirrel and ate with contentment.
Sadly, the squirrel did not give him any extra stats. Well, of course it didn’t, it was probably too small for anything useful to be in it.
He ate it all and he was still pretty much hungry, so he used the vision again and found one a few trees away. He ran off the branch and glided his way through the forest.
He locked in on the squirrel and dove down, fast and precise, slamming into it hard and killing it with the impact. He was getting pretty good at this hunting thing.
"I’m getting pretty good at this hunting thing," Ren said before digging his claws into the squirrel.

He ate it up in seconds and immediately started searching for the next prey, and he found it in no time. He used the same method and took it down, and ate that one as well.

Ren found the fourth. He dived in for this one, but nothing could have prepared him for what happened next. The squirrel looked at him, and then at the right moment, it dodged. Ren went right over it, hit a branch, and fell down.
He hit the ground and broke through a hole that was covered with dried twigs. He rolled down a rocky tunnel until he slammed into the ground hard.
"Arghhhh, what the hell happened?"
