Chapter 36: Incoming War

After that little scuffle, things returned back to normal. The Orc was tied up inside the cave, and work resumed soon after. No one had been killed, and that was good news to Ren.

"Alright, let’s get to work!" Ren said to the group of lizardmen that had gathered around him, waiting for instructions on what to do.

He informed them in detail of how the wood was to be cut. If this was before, the lizardmen would have had issues comprehending him, but now that almost all had evolved, he did not have that issue. They learned fast and worked faster.

Large planks of the required sizes were getting cut down and stacked very fast. The speed actually stunned Ren. The Lizardmen seemed to have learned what he taught all too well.

With everything going well like this, he helped in starting the building of the first house. He was no guru or genius, but he had seen a few cabins being built on some DIY channels back on Earth. With the residual knowledge, Dragon strength, and intelligence, he kept going.

He had expected that he would run into some issues when he recalled he did not have nails, but that did not last long as Remu suggested a technique.

It was a technique that made use of grooves and holes in the wood. Remu believed if they could create grooves and slide each plank and beam in properly, and then add some of the natural glue that Lizardmen used in their homes, it was bound to stand.

And it did, it actually did.

Ren was stunned. He had seen such a thing back on Earth, but it was not used to build an entire house. Yet they managed to do it because of the smarts of his evolved lizardman.

After polishing and sanding it down with a shit ton of rough-barked materials, every worker took a step back to admire the first piece of advancement that they had made. Standing there beautiful, it was a weird thing to see in this forest.

"Take it in, this is the start of your future if you all stick with me. Cozy housing and more to come." He declared. The wolves and lizardmen replied with a thundering roar.

By the end of the first day, they had managed to finish three similar-looking houses. They used sliding doors and other workarounds to ensure that they did not have to use nails and hinges.

Ren knew that they would need to start making tools sooner or later to ensure that they could keep growing.

So as he lay inside the cave with his head pressed against his front legs, he decided to ask the system.

"Is there a way to make high-grade tools?" He was not sure if it would respond, but it was worth the usual try.

[high-grade tools are made with premium materials and a good blacksmith.]

"Hmm, simple, but tell me some premium-grade materials I can get my hands on here."

[Dragon Scale]

"Eh? Are you trying to suggest I start pulling off my scales every day to create tools and materials?" He asked the system with a brow raised.

[A single good dragon scale can be used to craft multiple tools. Dragons also regenerate missing scales very fast.]

"Ohhhhh, I see, that’s much better. But I’m no blacksmith, I need one." Ren said. He thought for a few seconds if he could begin to even learn it.

The system seemed to watch him think for a bit and then finally offered a suggestion.

[the calamity orc seems to have subordinates with good weapons.]

The system said only that and then went silent.

"Wait, that’s true. Those weapons were indeed pretty neat and well made. That could only mean someone was making them. Also, those orcs seemed to be the weaker part of his army. If those ones have good weapons, what would the stronger ones have?"

He pondered it for a few minutes and, in the end, concluded that they surely had a good blacksmith and access to one.

"That being said, how do I even get them? Kill the calamity orc? I didn’t plan to be the one to attack at all."

As he thought, Ren suddenly got a stroke of wisdom. He rose to his feet, transformed into his human form, and walked out of the cave. He spread his wings and shot into the air very fast. He flew above the entire mountain.

"Where are you, calamity orc? Show yourself." Ren said. He spread out his presence as much as he could, and at the same time, he scanned the entire forest, looking as far as the edge.

"Come on, where are you? Show yourself to me, you dingus," he growled in anger. After searching for more than ten minutes, he finally sensed a presence awaken a far distance away, and it was looking right at him.

"There you are," Ren muttered. He turned in the direction of the orc.

"I know you see me. I know you want to fight me. Come on, bring your best against me and fight.

I need you to come, calamity orc, so I can take over what you own."

’Shit, I might be turning into a villain. But if that’s what’s needed to make sure me and my subordinates stay fine, then that’s good.

And besides, you are the one that attacked first. You might as well come finish it.’

[The calamity Orc has taken note of your presence. Prepare for war. 48 hours till first wave.]

"Hmm? Waves? He is attacking in waves? Well, that won’t do. The battle is between me and you, doofus. Why are you sending subordinates against me? Do you hate their lives?

Tch, game on. Bring your best, let’s see what you do against a dragon," Ren spoke, not knowing his dragon pride was seeping out.
