Chapter 30: Ch 30: Assigning Quests To Solve Hunger
"Calm down, Uncle. Panicking will not solve anything. The government or those superhumans must be planning some kind of relief operation to distribute rations."
Michael shook his head bitterly, "Those are superhumans, not superheroes. They only care about themselves, Rai. They will hoard whatever remaining food is left, while ordinary people like us are left to rot in these refugee camps."
Raidan clenched his fists. If Earth was truly running out of resources due to the relentless attacks from Rift monsters, humanity was facing an absolute catastrophe.
So, the emergency had become a food shortage.
Ordinary people didn’t know about this yet, but they soon would.
Raidan wasn’t a hero who should feel the responsibility to help everyone.
However, there is a saying: "With great power comes great responsibility."
He would do his part, but not to the point of risking his own life.
"Uncle, you stay here. I’ll try to find some food for us."
"Ah, just be careful, Rai. Not just outside; there could be monsters within us as well," Michael warned, indicating human’s dual nature.
Raidan stepped out of the gloomy tent.
"Ahahahah..."
As he walked past a row of torn military tents, a loud burst of laughter broke the grim silence.
Raidan turned his head and saw a group of four young men and women.
They stood out like sore thumbs.
Unlike the starving refugees, these people wore clean, high-quality clothes. They looked well-fed, energetic, and completely devoid of any worry.
They were Superhumans. Or, as Raidan knew them now, Players of Olympus.
"Man, you should have seen the loot I got from that Hobgoblin boss. It is a D grade broadsword! My Attack power went up by 40 points!" a tall guy with spiked hair bragged.
After him, a girl in a designer jacket scoffed,
"Tsk, tsk, that is nothing. I managed to trigger a hidden quest near the Elven territory. The NPC gave me a massive EXP boost. I will hit level ten by tonight for sure."
"Good for you, Maeve. With the way things are going down here on Earth, leveling up in Olympus is our only ticket to a good life. I heard the food reserves are completely gone."
"Who cares about the food reserves here? Let the ordinary folks worry about that. We can just buy premium meat from the tavern in the game and eat our fill. We do not need to rely on the government rations."
"Haha, My point is exactly. Why stress about some Rift monsters destroying farms? As long as we keep getting stronger in Olympus, we are practically untouchable. The rests could smile."
Raidan listened to their conversation in silence.
His uncle was right. They were not heroes. They were just privileged gamers playing with people’s lives.
It was then, for the first time, that Raidan revealed a dark smile.
"Well, if you love playing games so much, I guess I’ll give you the full experience. Whether you live or die is entirely up to the choices you make."
With that thought, Raidan disappeared.
Moments later, a mysterious figure entered the gathering.
Instinctively, all eyes were drawn to him at once.
He was tall and handsome, wearing a round hat that partially concealed his green hair. Behind a pair of round glasses, his crystal-clear green eyes shone with intelligence.
In one hand, he held a mysterious black book.
His noble bearing, enigmatic aura, and scholarly charisma made him seem as though he had stepped straight out of a fantasy world.
Tipping his hat in a graceful bow, he said,
"Greetings, my dear adventurers. It has been quite a tumultuous day, hasn’t it?"
The players began murmuring among themselves, wondering who the mysterious and handsome man was.
The tall guy with spiked hair asked,"Who are you? Are you from one of the top guilds?"
Raidan just smiled.
Then he slowly opened the black book in his hands, running a slender finger down a completely blank page.
"I am merely a wandering scholar. You may call me Verde. I travel in search of capable individuals to partake in a grand trial. And listening to your earlier conversation, it seems I have found the perfect candidates."
The girl in the designer jacket looked at him skeptically.
"A trial? What are you talking about? Are you handing out quests in the real world?"
"The boundaries between our worlds are thinner than you realize, young maiden. And I represent a very wealthy, very ancient faction. I am currently in need of brave heroes like you. The cruel state of your world had me crying. So I would like to help anyway I could... But I am alone not enough. I need your help to solve the upcoming famine... Will you help me adventurers?"
In the meantime. Raidan mentally accessed his Quest Creator interface. If his attributes and inventory worked on Earth, he was betting his core class ability would function as well.
He quickly typed out the parameters, ensuring the difficulty was high enough to cause them grief, but the bait was far too enticing to ignore.
Ding!
Very soon, all four players received the same system notification.

"WHAT!" The four Superhumans gasped in unison.
"So generous!"
A cross-world System quest with a Gold-Tier Treasure box reward was completely unheard of in the Players community.
"A Gold-Tier Treasure box can easily have a C or B grade weapon. I have seen one when I was raiding a dungeon with a party. This is actually insane!" the spike haired guy said, shaking with excitement.
The girl added,
"And those 10,000 experience points can easily elevate me to level 10. We must take this quest at once!"
"Yeah. We can never miss such an easy quest."
And that’s how Raidan decided to help the world. He wouldn’t even have to lift a finger.
