Chapter 136: Bad Negotiators, The Skill Stones

"On your knees! Please! Hands in the air, let’s do this peacefully!" the man with the megaphone shouted. "You must all be documented and vetted at our local—"

"Shut the fuck up!" one of the students shouted back, his voice stronger than even the megaphone.

All the soldiers tensed and raised their automatic weapons. The tanks clicked on with a whirl of machinery that Faust’s sensitive ears picked up.

’A tank against high schoolers? Are they serious? I mean, there are people here that can rip that thing apart with their bare hands, but still...’

The mounted turrets on the cars and tanks turned and took aim. The Soldier all looked pale, but resolute. They would shoot.

"Why should we go with you fools?" a girl yelled.

"I dare you to shoot," one boy taunted. "I’ll turn you all to ashes before you can say mummy."

All the kids began to heckle the crowd. Their derision and dismissal dripped in their voices. Some of them must have forgotten bullets can still hurt them.

In fact, if you didn’t have a constitution of around two hundred and fifty points, Faust was pretty sure a bullet could still pierce your skin and damage some organs.

People underestimated how deadly a 7.62 mm round was. Not to talk about hollow-tips. There were also other armor-piercing rounds on those turrets. They’d turn a Player to swiss cheese in seconds.

But some of the people here were bullheaded and didn’t know much about firearms. More importantly, they were just coming out of fighting a full-blown war for two straight days.

They didn’t prepare their minds for the possibility of more work after coming back from literal war. This was the most logical action for the government to take, but no matter how logical it was, it was very annoying.

And an annoyed human being isn’t likely to listen.

"Can someone stop these idiots from starting another war," Spider muttered. She was standing on the edges of the stairs down from the exit, sitting on the rails.

Zen was beside her grinning, "Nah, they should start a disturbance so we can slip out. I am not spending anymore time in some government jail. In the next twenty minutes I need to be in my bed. Or the bed of a fine lady."

Spider slapped the back of his head hard.

Nirvana poked Thalia with her shoulder, grinning too. "You go, Mrs. Future Senator. You need to start leading by example."

"You say that as a joke but I do," Thalia grumbled.

"Oh, you already told her," Faust said. "Good. Have fun in my place, Mrs. Future Senator." freewebnovel.cσ๓

Thalia showed him her middle finger. "Maybe we should just slip away. I really want to see my little brother."

Faust waved at Zen. "Use Observe to look around."

Zen’s forehead wrinkled in confusion, but he did so, and then grit his teeth. "What are those machines? And there are snipers in the trees."

"Focus on the ground. There are traps and sniper nests." Faust pointed straight at a sniper and enjoyed watching the man freak out. "You have to be looking for these things to find them though. They probably have other stuff I can’t see yet."

"So what’s the plan? Can we stop yapping?" Thalia said grumpily. "I really wanted to go home, not some government prison."

They all turned to her blinking.

"You’re the plan guy," Spider reminded.

"I think we should just go," Greg pointed out. "They might have prepared a good place to host us and maybe our families can come visit."

That was mostly right, if Faust was honest. If he had been in charge of luring these kids to those locations, he would have brought their families, promised them money and luxurious accommodations, and made it sound like a vacation.

That way people will come because of the implicit threat of keeping their family hostage and or because they knew they’d get to relax.

But he highly doubted they had enough time to think about all that.

"I don’t think they’ll have thought about all this stuff in just two days though," Faust cut in, mostly to just have them lower their expectations. But also to oppose Greg. "You have to think more about logistics, big guy. But it’s okay you aren’t the thinking guy."

However, instead of being offended, Greg grinned. "You’re right, Faust. I spoke without thinking. But you’re here to help."

Faust grimaced. ’Why is he making me look like an asshole? Fight back!’

Thalia’s shoulders fell, and then she started to push through the crowd to the front. "I’m going to get things under control."

Faust turned to Nirvana. "I’m still going home. Perks of level 3 Stealth."

Nirvana grabbed his shoulders. "No, don’t go. How will we find each other? And I wanted us to share rooms in a government prison."

Zen masked his words with a cough. "Pervs..."

Nirvana and Spider hit him and Faust resisted the urge to join in.

"I’ll be back, just going to pop in and make sure they don’t need anything," Faust said.

After some more promises, Nirvana let him slip back into the school. He was moving towards the upstairs classes of the school. He could jump from there to a tree.

As he climbed upstairs he heard the crowds of arguing kids and dumb adults calm down as Thalia negotiated.

He pulled up his status first. He had about seventeen skill stones right now and he wanted to upgrade some skills.

It would be smarter to upgrade Silver-grade skills first, but he wanted to choose two Iron-grade skills he hadn’t upgraded in a while. They were legacy skills he had since the beginning of the Origin trials and he personally loved them.

They also had a good chance to evolve a little with this upgrade.
