Chapter 18: Chapter 18
At the headquarters of the Bennett Corporation, the atmosphere was as cold and immaculate as ever.
Oliver Grant stood waiting by the elevator doors. The moment they slid open, Elise stepped out.
He immediately straightened, his tone respectful. "Mrs. Bennett, Mr. Bennett is still in a meeting. Please wait for him in the office for a little while."
Elise gave him a faint nod.
The moment she entered the office, her gaze landed on the cake and milk tea sitting neatly on the coffee table. All of them were her favorites.
"Mr. Bennett knew you were coming," Oliver explained with a smile. "He specifically asked me to prepare these for you."
Elise showed little reaction. Her expression remained distant, almost indifferent.
"How much longer will Dylan be?"
Oliver lifted his wrist and checked the time. "The meeting should wrap up in about half an hour."
"I understand." Elise walked over to the sofa and sat down gracefully. Looking up at him, she said calmly, "I’ll wait for him. You can go ahead and do your work." freewebnσvel.cѳm
"Of course. If you need anything at all, just let me know." Oliver dipped his head slightly before turning to leave.
The office door closed behind him, and cold silence settled over the room.
Elise took out her phone and opened a mobile game to pass the time.
She never looked at the cake or milk tea again.
It wasn’t that she no longer liked them. It was simply that from now on, no matter how much she once loved something, if it came from Dylan, she would never want it again.
If she ever wanted something, she would now get it herself.
...
What was supposed to be half an hour stretched into a full hour before the meeting finally ended.
Dylan stepped out of the conference room, and Oliver immediately approached him, lowering his voice.
"Sir, I checked. Mrs. Bennett went to a law firm first. After leaving there, she went to a forensic testing center."
Dylan didn’t look surprised.
Three days earlier, when he learned Elise had gone to the kindergarten, he had already anticipated this day would come.
Without saying a word, he strode toward his office and pushed the glass doors open.
Elise looked up right away. Dylan walked inside and quietly shut the door behind him.
As he approached her, his gaze swept over the untouched cake and milk tea before settling on her calm, unreadable face.
His dark eyes were deep and inscrutable, his voice cool and detached. "I still have an overseas video conference later. I don’t have much time."
"It’s alright. I won’t take up too much of it."
Elise pulled a divorce agreement from her bag and placed it on the table. Looking directly at him, she said evenly, "A professional lawyer drafted this agreement for me. Read it over. If there’s no issue, sign it now."
Dylan glanced at the papers, his expression unchanged. Then he walked to his desk and sat down, humming something under his nose.
Leaning back against the leather chair, he raised a hand and pressed lightly against his brow, as though suppressing a growing headache.
"Elise," he said at last, lifting his eyes to her, impatience creeping into his low voice, "I don’t have time to indulge this tantrum of yours. I told you before—Quinn and Robin’s existence won’t affect you."
"You knew I went to the kindergarten."
Elise had no interest in arguing with him. She reached into her bag again and pulled out the paternity test report she had just received from the testing center.
Rising to her feet, she walked to the desk and tossed the report down in front of him.
Her eyes were icy as she stared at him. "This is proof that you cheated on me and betrayed our marriage," she said coldly. "And it’s my reason for divorcing you."
Dylan didn’t even glance at the report. His reaction made it obvious he had expected this all along.
"Elise," he said calmly, "this report cannot prove that I cheated."
Elise stared at him in disbelief. The evidence was right in front of him, yet he still had the audacity to say something so shameless.
She took a deep breath, then abruptly flipped the report open and pointed at the final result.
"Dylan, open your eyes and look at it yourself! The biological relationship is confirmed! This test was done using your DNA and Robin’s samples!"
Dylan lowered his gaze briefly.
The report indeed stated: Biological parent-child relationship confirmed.
The result was entirely within his expectations.
He looked back up at Elise, whose attitude remained firm and unyielding, and lifted a brow slightly.
"So," he said evenly, "if Robin isn’t really my son... will you stop bringing up divorce?"
