Chapter 6: Arthea Guerrero

Vyral frowned and tried to explain that he hadn’t done anything dirty to her yet, but she only lay motionless on the floor, two streams of tears rolling down from her hollow eyes.

She completely ignored Vyral and abandoned herself to the goblin at this point.

At some point, Vyral finally realized the dead end of this conversation came from the difference between their languages.

’’Right. How could I forget something so important like that?’’

He clicked his tongue while summoning the basic evolution panel. His gaze fixed on one basic evolution among the list. He chose it without hesitation.

He cleared his throat, trying to pronounce the words properly.

’’Grak-grak, Grak-grak... Hello... Uhm... Hello, Lady.’’

For the first time, a bit of color returned to Arthur’s eyes as she slowly turned her attention toward Vyral.

She stared at him in complete confusion, as if unsure whether what she had just heard was real or not.

’’Y-You can speak human language?’’

One side of Vyral’s brow rose.

’’Of course. I’m an Otherworlder.’’

Arthur frowned. She didn’t believe anything coming out of Vyral’s mouth, yet when she thought about it more carefully, it actually made sense.

Otherworlders were famous for the unique and strange abilities granted to them by the Deities.

Seeing the tension gradually fade from Arthur’s face, Vyral finally let out a relieved breath.

Otherworlders were what the NPCs of this world called players who were sent into this world by the Deities to help fight against its dark forces – the Demon God and his fanatical followers.

After Vyral explained everything again, Arthur finally relaxed and accepted his story.

’’I see... So you’ve just been sent to this world by a Deity,’’ Arthur said while straightening herself up, revealing her alluring curves.

A trace of bitterness lingered in her voice as she added,

’’Recently, the Deities have been sending more Otherworlders into this world. At first, I was suspicious about their decision, but now I understand why... It’s just too late.’’

Vyral frowned.

’’Lady, not recently. We’ve already been here for around three hundred years. I can even say half the citizens in this world are Otherworlders.’’

As soon as she heard that, a dumbfounded expression was clearly written across her face.

’’Liar.’’

Vyral sighed and replied in a bored voice. He probably shouldn’t have continued this conversation since it would open up a long story that could take an entire day to explain. And Vyral was the type of player who hated long stories. He only cared about fighting and growing stronger.

Conversations had always been the most boring part for players, even back in his former world.

’’Yeah, I’m a liar, okay. Then, don’t talk nonsense again. Let’s focus on getting out of this dungeon, and then you’ll see whether I’m a liar or not."

Ting!

[Your chance to receive quests from King Arthur has decreased]

Vyral’s expression distorted in darkness as the bright texts appeared. He hated conversations with NPCs. Once you didn’t answer with NPCs properly, he would not have a certain relationship to receive the missions from them.

He smiled brightly, his attitude completely different from before.

’’Ah... sorry, Lady... actually...’’

Unfortunately, Arthur only gave Vyral an assessing look and left.

’’I’ll find it myself... you split-personality goblin.’’

Crack.

Crack.

Crack.

Suddenly, the wall of the corridor broke apart, the rubble scattering all over the place with a sharp clatter, revealing a group of undead knights stretching toward Vyral and Arthur.

[Undead Knight Lv.1 (Advanced)]

Their eyes radiated a blood-red glow toward living beings. Armed with weapons from head to toe, they were opponents Vyral had to stay alert against if he didn’t want to die.

Realizing the chance to rebuild their relationship had already come, Vyral spoke politely.

’’Lady, do you want help? I’m ready for this.’’

Arthur frowned, then let out a breath. She wasn’t petty for something trivial but rational, so she answered. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm

’’Whatever you want.’’

’’N-Nice! That’s what I expected from my king... or my queen... Tch. Who cares.’’

Vyral prepared his rusted sword, standing next to Arthur. He lingered for a moment and said,

’’Lady, what’s your name? Mine is Vyral Carlson.’’

Introducing their names was the best way to leave an impression on a first meeting.

Arthur’s beautiful, flawless face remained cold for a moment before she lightly parted her lips.

’’Arthea Guerrero.’’

’’Arthea... a beautiful name, Lady.’’ Vyral uttered.

Arthea focused on the undead knights ahead. She tightly gripped her sword while saying,

’’I hate sycophants the most.’’

Just like that, she rushed toward the monsters, totally not caring what Vyral was thinking.

Vyral looked at Arthea with an assessing, almost studying gaze, before turning to the other monsters.

He leapt up into midair before swinging a downward chop at the first undead knight. His speed was quite fast thanks to his basic evolution; the first undead knight barely registered Vyral’s attack before the sword’s tip had already pierced its head.

Vyral hooked his legs around the undead knight’s head while relentlessly chopping into it with his axe battle.

In a final motion, he severed the undead knight’s head and jumped off, continuing to maneuver through the crowd of undead knights while simultaneously targeting their legs. He looked like a small, slippery animal darting through the battlefield, while the gigantic knights stood helpless against him in close combat.

For the first time, Vyral realized the advantage of his short height: it gave him a significant edge when fighting large numbers in tight spaces.

However, he still met difficulty in finishing undead knights off, attack range was quite short, not mentioning the monster’s tough agility. At least, he did his job well. And beyond his limit, there was a better one to perform.

’’Arthea’’

She weaved through the undead knights, delivering a series of precise, deadly blows. The monsters were powerless to reach her, her speed was simply too overwhelming. She dodged their blind attacks without wasting a drop of sweat, as if performing a skillful ballet at a royal banquet.

Her movements were delicate and efficient, with no unnecessary motion.

Her swordsmanship had already surpassed her age. Well, Vyral wasn’t too surprised after all – she was the protagonist of this game.

Meanwhile, Arthea had been observing Vyral’s performance. Compared to the average goblins in the Green Dungeon, he was relatively strong – no, he was the strongest among them. She could tell because Vyral already possessed the intelligence of a higher lifeform like herself, making him far superior to the other goblins with their primitive minds.

However, from what she had heard from her father – King Uther Pendragon – Players from the Otherworld possessed ridiculous powers granted by the gods. Those powers allowed them to learn everything at an unbelievable speed – the ability to instantly learn skills at the cost of something. With such abilities, they could master techniques and skills that the people of this world would normally spend years training and practicing to learn.

In other words, they were geniuses who could learn almost everything at first glance, just like her – something anyone would be jealous of.

Although Vyral wasn’t as strong as her, he was still a great help in this situation. So, she accepted Vyral as a partner.

After quite a long time, they finally wiped out the Undead Knights completely.

"You’re strong, Otherworlder." Arthea gave him a genuine compliment. In truth, she wanted to thank him, but the pride of a royal bloodline held her back.

Vyral barely managed to stand up, panting heavily as he stared at the virtual panel before him, completely failing to notice Arthea’s words at all.

[Congratulations! You’ve completed King Arthur’s mission.]

"I have to choose one of them? Damn, I want both."

[Please make a choice. Otherwise, the reward will be canceled after 30 seconds.]

Vyral sighed.

"Of course, Option 2."

Indeed, Option 1 was extremely tempting to him, yet considering his present circumstances, it wasn’t a good choice. His gaming helmet was an old-generation model powered by batteries, so its usage time wasn’t very long – each battery cost him a considerable amount of money. That also explained why scavengers were so rare in the game.

Because of the above reasons, the amount of time he could spend playing the game was very limited.

If he had been born into a rich family with plenty of free time to play games, maybe he wouldn’t have hesitated to choose Option 1.

"That’s a pity."

Vyral gazed at the silver moon-shaped earring floating in his palm before he hung it on his right ear.

The earring radiated a gentle, mysterious light for a brief moment before gradually turning dim.

...

"Prepare yourself... I sense a large number of monsters coming this way." Arthea’s clear, charming voice rang out.

"Yes, another mission." Vyral said eagerly. Meanwhile, Arthea stared at the Hobgoblins with a trace of tension in her eyes.

"Why are they appearing more and more?" she gritted her teeth, glancing around. She intended to tell Vyral about her plan, but when she turned to him, he had vanished without a trace.

All that remained beside her was a pillar of blue light – no sign of the partner she had counted on.

’’Has he run away?’’
