Chapter 5: Arthur Pendragon

Vyral continued deeper into the dungeon, seeing two corridors to the right and left, both lit by flickering torches on either side.

He frowned, thinking about the best way to go. From what he could sense, the left corridor was quite silent, while the right one was filled with noise, as if a battle was taking place over there.

With years of experience, it would be better to avoid that path.

"Sure. I won’t."

But before he could take another step, a familiar sound echoed in his ears.

Ting!

[You have received a mission from Chaotic Deity, Apostle]

[Description]: Rescue King Arthur from monsters and guide the king safely out of the dungeon.

[Reward]: Swordmaster Evolution Path.

[Penalty]: The apocalypse shall descend, and the world will collapse.

Speechless, Vyral held his nearly bald head in shock, staring at the bright text. Finally, this time had come. There was a big difference between normal players and Apostles. While regular players could only get missions from NPCs, Apostles had a chance to receive missions from their Deity.

Clearly, missions from a Deity always came with great rewards he had never even dreamed of.

"Great! Even if my Deity is forgotten, he’s still a Deity, right?... If I become a top-1 player, I’ll build an immersive temple for you."

However, when he read the words "King Arthur" and the penalty of the mission, suspicion aroused in his mind.

"King Arthur... I know him. Arthur Pendragon, who has a destiny to bring order to the chaotic lands. A special NPC that all players and guilds in the whole world pursue at any cost, even the guilds of corporations, who still haven’t found his trace after around 300 years.’’

If he found King Arthur, he could open a new stage of the game, piggybacking on the countless benefits from this.

"I shall be the first Sainted Knight serving under King Arthur. My future will be promising – every guild will have to roll out the red carpet just to invite me."

He never thought he would have the honor of being the only player to perform this mission since the game was created.

"But if I fail, the apocalypse shall descend? ...Who cares? I guess it’ll just be a new era for this game."

Vyral smirked as he headed down the right corridor.

"Just hang in there, Your Highness."

After 10 minutes of walking, he finally saw the origin of the commotion, where a battle was taking place.

[Skeleton Knight Lv.1]

A group of skeleton knights was fighting a shadowy figure.

Vyral frowned and took a few more steps to get a clearer look. But just seconds later, he tilted his head with a confused expression.

"A girl?"

The young girl wore a nightgown marked with some spots of dried blood. The hem of the nightgown was torn open to allow freer movement, revealing snow-white thighs. Holding a rusty sword, she danced gracefully among the monsters. Each slash revealed both elegance and death. freewёbnoνel.com

She seemed to be completely in the upper hand against the monsters, but it was only a matter of time. Vyral could see her pale, weary face as more and more monsters appeared over time.

Vyral scratched his chin pensively.

’’Arthur Pendragon is a girl? ...I even thought she was an old man’’

Finally, the creators of this game knew the way to surprise players. Vyral even applauded several times to show his appreciation.

They had completely tricked players around the world, but Vyral didn’t know the truth; they themselves were unaware of it – Was it an error in the production process or not?

Vyral shrugged, heartlessly letting monsters gnaw at her stamina and will one by one. After 10 minutes, all the monsters died. Arthur struggled to stand up, leaning against the sword as support. She shivered nonstop and gasped for breath while watching around cautiously.

Vyral leisurely headed over to Arthur, but when he entered her range, he felt a chill run down his spine.

He could clearly see her sharp, dead glare behind her messy blonde hair.

Vyral said.

’’Grak-grak, Grak-grak.’’ (Don’t worry, I just wanna help you.)

Unluckily, his naked, ugly appearance and weird expression practically showed a contrast to his good intentions. He looked like a crafty monster, hiding in a dark corner and waiting for the moment Arthur fell into her weakest state to reveal himself.

Arthur clenched her teeth, her vision growing blurred as she spoke in a cold voice.

"Y-You perverted, filthy goblin... were you waiting for this moment? ...Sorry, but I’m still—"

She staggered for several times before collapsing and losing consciousness.

Vyral shook his head slightly in disappointment.

"If she had seen a handsome bastard instead of me, I wonder what would’ve happened."

A few minutes later, Vyral dragged her into a corner of the corridor to avoid the other monsters. He was afraid she might kill him after waking up since he had tied her limbs with strips torn from her nightgown.

But he thought more carefully.

If the first thing she saw was his naked body, it would definitely lead to a disastrous misunderstanding. So, he continued to tear a piece of the cloth from her nightgown to make himself a loincloth. Actually, he wished he could have done it another way, but he couldn’t find anything else to use.

He prepared a rusty sword beside himself in case the worst happened and sat down next to her. But it seemed he had forgotten something important.

"Never mind. If I forgot about it, then it’s probably something trivial anyway." He shrugged.

"Ten minutes later, Arthur tiredly opened her eyes.

The first thing she sensed was the cool edge of a sword against her throat. Then, she realized her limbs were tightly bound by clothes. She could tear them apart right now, but the sword’s edge slowly nicked her throat.

A threatening voice rang out beside her.

’’Grak-grak, Grak-grak.’’ (Don’t move if you don’t wanna die.)

She glanced sharply at the goblin, but after recognizing Vyral’s loincloth, her gaze slowly shifted to her own nightgown... most of it had been torn apart. Long ragged holes across the nightgown exposed her slender white waist. Even the sleeves had suffered the same fate, nearly stripped apart completely.

Her firm, sharp expression gradually turned desperate and hollow, completely losing reason to live.

Even an optimistic person wouldn’t be able to think positively in this situation, let alone a young maiden already sensitive about such things.

’’J-Just kill me.’’"
