Chapter 4: Evolution
By the time Vyral reached another gloomy corridor, a Lv.1 skeleton suddenly charged at him.
Vyral had no fear since his strength wasn’t the same as before. It was enough to face the Lv.1 skeleton.
Vyral dodged the skeleton’s sneak attack and, at the same time, lashed out with a precise, cruel chop toward the monster’s knee. The sound of cracking bones echoed as the skeleton dropped to its knees, only to helplessly watch the goblin’s axe bury itself deep in its skull.
His attack was fast as hell, not even giving the monster a chance to react, cutting it in half on the spot.

A few seconds later, half a dozen skeletons rushed out of the corridor’s darkness. There were quite a lot of them, and in the dark environment, even with the innate ability of his race, it still caused him some trouble.
His vision range in the darkness had a radius of around five meters, he needed a basic evolution to see farther.
After killing the second skeleton, he immediately opened the list of available basic evolutions.
He quickly scanned through the list before choosing the cheapest one: [Nocturnal Vision Lv.1].
[Nocturnal Vision Lv.1] – 0.5 Mystic Energy
Increases the vision radius in darkness by 15 meters.
Mystic Energy: 0,7 → 0,2
Throbbing pain ran through his eyes, yet Vyral clenched his teeth and endured it. Compared to the earlier torture, this was not worth mentioning.
His eyes glowed crimson in the darkness, like two rubies waiting to be bathed in blood. His vision in the thick darkness became clearer. He could now see more monsters lurking beneath the corridor’s shadows, so he no longer had to worry about sneak attacks.
He rushed forward, kicked one skeleton aside, and rained a series of chops at another. ƒreewebɳovel.com
The sharp edge of his battle axe drove deep into the skeleton’s body, pieces of bone scattering across the floor with a loud clatter.
In his final move, he chopped the skeleton’s head off.
The skeleton collapsed, its head rolling across the floor as the crimson light in its sockets gradually lost the magic sustaining it.
The other skeleton now showed fear, as if witnessing a monster even more terrifying than themselves.
The horde of Lv.1 skeletons stood no chance against him – a tinge of hesitation flashed through their minds.
Vyral stared at them for a moment before rushing forward. He wouldn’t let any of them escape.
After massacring the remaining skeletons and earning 1 Mystic Energy, Vyral continued deeper into the corridor, his eyes fixed on the list of available basic evolutions.
After a few minutes of researching the list, his eyes fixed on a basic evolution.
[Hardened Skin Lv1] – 0,5 Mystic Energy
Reinforces the skin to withstand physical damage more effectively.
He glanced at his body. There were a lot of scratches, slowly bleeding. Although they didn’t affect him too much, the pain this game inflicted still hurt.
"I need it."
After selecting it to buy, a faint burning pain zigzagged through his pale skin. A second later, there was a subtle change in its color – brighter, no longer the pale skin of a sick man.
Healthy, firm skin covered his muscle fibers, with veins clearly visible, like those of a gym man.
+3 Constitution
Vyral nodded in satisfaction and moved ahead. He was eager to face more skeletons, yet he barely encountered any monsters in the corridor.
"So lucky. Finally, I can take a break."
But only a few minutes later, he spotted a skeleton emerging in the distance. It seemed Vyral’s luck had finally run out.
A skeleton humanoid with a hunched back, revealing bony spikes across its spine. The head of a bull ripped a half, yet keeping the long maw with sharp, jagged teeth.
Its eyes burned with a crimson glow as it gazed at Vyral with clear amusement.
[Minotaur Skeleton Lv.1 (Boss)]
Minotaur Skeleton rushed down at goblin without hesitation.
"Well, I’m speechless."
Vyral dropped low to dodge the blow and rolled several times across the floor. The monster swung its claws at him nonstop, its face twisted and depraved.
Vyral moved cautiously as he calculated Minotaur Skeleton’s movements.
In the next few seconds, after narrowly evading the monster’s attacks, he struck back – a precise chop landed on its skull, leaving a deep crack.
The monster roared in agony, writhing wildly, then punched Vyral, sending him skidding across the floor. The small stones crashed apart as Vyral tumbled through them.
Vyral struggled to stand up, shrugging off pieces of stones from his body. Most of his injuries were nothing more than superficial wounds, even though sharp stones on the ground had hit him. Obviously, the [Hardened Skin] basic evolution had helped him a lot.
However, it still hurt a lot, especially because of the game’s over-amplified pain simulation system.
After Vyral’s first chop, the monster began to stagger and lose its balance, yet Vyral could see the crack in its skull rapidly recovering at an alarming rate thanks to magic energy.
At this pace, he might lose his first – maybe only – chance to kill it.
Without even a passing thought or hesitation, Vyral charged at the monster at full speed, coldly ignoring the pain tormenting his chest.
Relying purely on reflexes, he narrowly evaded the monster’s attacks before building up speed from a blind spot. Then, he leapt into the air and landed on its back, relentlessly delivering brutal chops to its head.
The monster thrashed wildly, trying to shake Vyral off, but he was simply too tenacious. He wrapped his legs around its neck like a snake locking onto its prey, while continuously unleashing a series of strikes to break through its hard skull.
Deafening impact sounds echoed each time Vyral brought his axe down. But it seemingly wasn’t enough, so he made a decision. freёwebnoѵel.com

The muscles in his arms bulged, giving off a wave of crimson aura. Cracks began to appear along the handle of the battle axe as Vyral lost control of his strength.
’’YOU DIE!’’
After several minutes, its skull finally shattered, the magic energy escaping all at once like smoke.
Vyral jumped off the monster as it staggered a few times. It was still struggling to survive even with its skull torn apart and only a tiny amount of magic energy left.

He sighed as he gazed at the battle axe dissipating in his hand. Right then, a familiar sound rang out once again.
