Chapter 30: Artificial dungeon core

Ting!

[Congratulations! You’ve completed King Arthur’s mission.]

+50 Favorability Points with King Arthur]

+[Katana (Lv. 1 Requirement)| Green Blue | Durability: 92% ]

.Nullifies 30% of incoming magic attacks and converts them into Mystic Energy

.Slashes have a 15% chance to inflict Bleed, lasting 10 minutes and cannot be stopped

Vyral smiled as he leaped up in midair, quickly catching the katana that materialized before him.

Using his thumb, he pushed the tsuba up, revealing a sharp black blade. His blue eyes were reflected in it.

’’Good.’’

The next moment, he turned his attention to the horde of treants around him. His eyes grew indifferent as he raised a hand.

’’Fireball!’’

In an instant, three fireballs tore through the air, aiming at the monsters. The flames blanketed them, burning their branches to ashes. Deafening screams of pain resounded throughout the zone as the fire began to spread rapidly.

Smoke billowed into the sky.

Vyral continuously hurled fireballs at the monsters, not letting a single one escape.

Bobby, his face disfigured and bruised, yelled to Travis.

’’Hurry up! We need to finish them before the flames do.’’

Doran screamed.

’’Hey, Vyral. Leave some for me!’’

Vyral simply nodded and remained silent. He leisurely walked over to a rock and sat down. At this rate, the flames would kill them all sooner or later.

The burning treants fled in panic, crashing into each other and creating chains of endless fire.

They were killing one another, but because the damage originated from Vyral’s flames, the system credited him with their kills.

With a happy face, he leaned his back against the wall of rock while staring at bright, clear texts nonstop appeared, announcing for killing the monsters.

Mystic Energy: 209,5 +2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2....

’’What a beauty.’’

Just like that, an hour passed.

Mystic Energy: 716,35

He intended to open the evolution list and purchase some upgrades, but then he changed his mind.

He decided to upgrade them later. Moreover, the choices depended on the circumstances he would face. Buying them randomly wasn’t a good idea.

A few minute later.

[5 hours have passed. The candidates’ scores are now being calculated.]

’’What the hell?’’ Vyral grimaced.

He thought Arthea would climb to the top after killing the boss, but things didn’t go as he had predicted.

Why was Scarlet, and Grey still gaining points that fast?

’’Damn it! How could I forget? They’re the children of the Corporations. They must know some good zones for farming points too – maybe even better ones than ours.’’

Vyral scratched the back of his head in worry. Then, the next announcement appeared before him, only making him even more anxious.

[1 hour remaining before the exam ends. Candidates, please follow the pillar of light in the sky and head to the central farming zone.]

Vyral sighed. Being worried now was useless. He had to trust both himself and Arthea. Everything would be decided in the central farming zone.

Because the rank of No.1 wasn’t important to him, he chose to become her shield. He would interfere with the others’ point farming while helping Arthea at the same time.

After a few minutes of preparation, they finally followed the pillar of light in the sky toward the final zone.

However, things wouldn’t be that easy.

A group of candidates appeared out of nowhere and blocked Vyral’s group.

One of them stepped forward. He was a slender elf(Lv.3).

’’Sorry, but I can’t let any of you pass... Of course, Sir Doran, you may go. This doesn’t involve you.’’

Doran spat in disdain.

’’If you know who I am, then why the fuck aren’t you getting out of my way?’’

The elf smirked.

’’Yeah. You’re just as hot-tempered as Master Grey said.’’

’’Indeed, I can not defeat all of you, but... they can.’’

The elf held up a dungeon core that radiated green light in every direction. The next moment, he activated it, releasing a horde of monsters into the area out of nowhere.

The monsters bared their teeth in madness. Their eyes turned bloodshot the moment they were brought into existence.

Doran grimaced in anger. He recognized it immediately. It was an artificial dungeon core that the powerful guilds had been researching in hopes of creating private dungeons for its own use. However, the project was far from complete, let alone ready to be used in a place like this. It carried countless risks, such as the monsters losing control like they had now.

’’What gives you the right to use our guild’s latest product?! Damn you! Aren’t you afraid of being punished by the Corporation in the real world?’’

The elf chuckled.

’’I’m grateful for your kindness, but my master has allowed me to do this.’’

He added in a warning tone.

’’Come on, I can’t control the monsters much longer. Please leave. I don’t want to pick a fight with you.’’

But behind that fake concern, he had no intention of letting Doran go.

Vyral squinted for a moment before speaking.

’’Doran, Arthea. Both of you go ahead. My exam is already over. I’ll hold them back for you guys.’’

He glanced at Bobby and Travis... but they had fled long ago.

Doran clenched his jaw and fists in fury, while Arthea stared at Vyral with a thoughtful gaze.

’’We won’t.’’ They spoke at the same time.

Veins bulged on Vyral’s forehead. He walked up to Arthea and gripped her hand tightly. His voice carried a seriousness as if he were facing a life-or-death battle.

’’Please, Arthea. I need you to reach No.1. Even if I fail the exam, I don’t care.’’

Arthea remained silent for a moment before replying.

’’I need a reason for this sacrifice. To me, you’re more important than that position. A true knight never abandons their partner.’’
