Chapter 23: First exam
The sun rose into the sky, and Vyral woke up in the forest near Academy Twilight. Earlier, he had scouted around the academy and intended to log out, but then he thought again. Sleeping in the game might give him a better feeling in the real world.
Indeed, after waking up, he felt refreshed. From that moment on, he truly believed the theory he had discussed with Doran.
’’This world is real.’’
Vyral ate an apple and headed to the academy’s gate.
A few minutes later, Vyral stood behind a row of candidates, who were waiting to register for the entrance exam.
Soon, his turn came. The professor gazed at the paper in his hand while asking Vyrl without taking a look.
’’Name?’’
’’Vyral Carlson.’’
’’Race?’’
’’Goblin?’’
’’Goblin? Okay..wait a minute? A goblin?’’ The professor grimaced and slammed paper on the table. He looked down, instantly rubbing his chin.
’’Are you a goblin?’’
Vyral replied.
’’My father is a goblin.’’
The professor let out a sympathetic breath and nodded in understanding.
’’I see, poor boy.’’ freeweɓnovel.cѳm
He wrote something in the paper while asking.
’’What is your class?’’
Vyral said.
’’I’m a fighter.’’
The professor nodded and pointed his thumb behind him.
’’Get in. Your number is 932. Remember it.’’
Vyral stepped through the gate, and right then, the enormous academy came into view. It left him staring in awe for a moment.
’’I’ve never seen a place this beautiful.’’
Castles and countless buildings of all sizes stretched across the academy grounds. People moved about everywhere. Beasts flew through the sky, releasing bursts of magic as if practicing for some performance.
In addition, the dense mana in the air felt refreshing and invigorating.
Vyral walked farther inside, heading to the area he had been assigned to—the zone for fighter-class candidates.
The professor glanced at the candidates around him and said,
’’The exam will have three parts. In the first part, you’ll get only one strike. Hit that wooden figure with everything you’ve got’’
Everyone in the fighter class turned their attention to the wooden figure nearby.
’’It’s simpler than I thought.’’ A candidate chuckled.
’’Yeah, just watch. I’ll set a record. None of you can catch up to me.’’
A handsome elf Lv. 2 stepped forward, lifting his rapier and aiming it at the figure’s head.
He took a deep breath before his body left behind afterimages due to his speed.
’’YAAAAHHHHH! FLASH THRUST OF GOD!’’
A streak of light struck the wooden figure’s head, producing a loud bang.
The elf thrust his rapier several times before sheathing it. He grinned and ran a hand through his hair.
’’He’s so handsome.’’ Some female candidates blushed.
’’2 / 100 points!’’
The professor shook his head in disappointment.
’’Candidate number 283, you need a minimum of 50 points to pass, so... you have failed.’’
The elf’s expression of confidence shifted to bewilderment. He stammered in fear.
’’It’s a mistake. Please, give me another chance.’’
The professor just ignored the elf coldly and said.
’’The next candidate number 932. Please go ahead.’’
Vyral sighed and drew his sword. He took a thrusting stance while gazing at the wooden figure.
A candidate whispered,
’’I bet this shorty will fail too.’’
Some candidates nodded.
’’Yeah, no doubt about it.’’
Well, it was easy to understand. People often judged others by their appearance. In their eyes, Vyral was nothing more than a thin, short guy who didn’t look suited to being a fighter at all.
Vyral figured that if a Level 2 elf had failed this exam, then the chances of everyone failing were probably high. After all, they were only around Levels 1 to 3. So, he believed this exam wasn’t testing pure strength alone, but technique as well.
He opened the system screen and smiled.
Name: Vyral Carlson
Race: Goblin (Mythical)
Class: Primordial Evolver (Mythical)
Level: 2
Experience: 234/500
Mystic Energy: 67,32
One night passed. His clones had worked quite hard, so he wasn’t surprised when he saw the amount of Mystic Energy.
Vyral upgraded [Thrust] skill without hesitation. This exam would determine his position in the real world, so there was no need to save his Mystic Energy for later.
[Thrust (Rank F) Lv.1] → [Thrust (Rank F) Lv.2] – 10 Mystic Energy.
[Thrust (Rank F) Lv.2] → [Thrust (Rank F) Lv.3] – 13 Mystic Energy.
[Thrust (Rank F) Lv.3] → [Thrust (Rank F) Lv.4] – 18 Mystic Energy.
[Thrust (Rank F) Lv.4] → [Thrust (Rank F) Lv.5] – 20 Mystic Energy.
Vyral took a step forward before bursting ahead with incredible speed, leaving everyone present stunned. Even the professor, who had maintained a cold expression the entire time, couldn’t help but widen his eyes for a brief moment.
A perfect strike, far superior to any candidate of his age. It relied not on raw physical strength, but on pure technique.
Bang!
The wooden figure’s head shattered instantly.
’’99/100 points!’’
The professor cleared his throat for a moment, as if struggling to stop himself from saying 100 points.
As an examiner, he never wanted any promising talent to become arrogant too early.
Vyral nodded in satisfaction and headed to the resting area for the candidates, but another voice suddenly rang out, drawing his attention.
’’100 points!’’ fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com
The crowd burst into chatter, discussing the candidate who had just completed the exam, while Vyral merely smiled and nodded in satisfaction.
’’Finally, I found you, Arthea.’’
A charming blonde girl standing over there had already captivated everyone with her technique. Her amber eyes carried a faint coldness before she turned away, ignoring everything else.
Plus, her level had risen quite a bit: Lv.4
