Chapter 20: Just spam your skills
Then, Vyral headed to the land of humans. Thanks to his new appearance, he barely had any difficulty interacting with them. They only asked about his skin color, some even mocking him for being a half-blood goblin
Well, Vyral didn’t care at all. As long as they gave him information about adventurer guilds – organizations specialized in handling small problems for people.
After stepping into the adventurer guild, Vyral registered for a Rank F mission.
’’Killing a horde of goblins?’’ Vyral rubbed his chin and nodded.
The goblins would be good practice before the entrance exam began.
Then, he headed to a village where goblins had been rampaging—[Goblin Lv.2].
Vyral stared at them with predatory eyes before considering how to kill them. If he used a hand-to-hand fighting style, he could easily kill them thanks to his basic evolution.
However, the real goal of this mission was to get used to the skills of a swordsman. Only then would he be able to face the geniuses at that academy.
Vyral opened the list of valuable skills and started with the first one.
[Bash (Rank F) Lv.1] – 3 Mystic Energy.
A basic attack that deals 5% additional damage to the target.
After buying it, Vyral frowned in surprise when he didn’t see any stat increase.
’’Oh, this skill is a kind of technique.’’
Vyral nodded and attacked the first goblin. He performed a single strike, and in the next instant, his sword cut down the goblin with ease.
[You have slain a Goblin Lv.2]
[+3 XP]
[+0.5 Mystic Energy]
His strike was so fast that even he was surprised. Not because of his physical abilities, but because of the pure technique behind it – as if he had practiced this strike hundreds of times, leaving very few unnecessary movements.
Smiling, he continued upgrading the skill again.
[Bash (Rank F) Lv.2] → [Bash (Rank F) Lv.3] — 6 Mystic Energy.
As soon as the second goblin charged at him, Vyral simply triggered [Bash] again. This time, the goblin died even though it had been prepared for the attack.
Vyral grinned as he witnessed its evolution. But just half a second later, his expression quickly turned tense as more and more goblins began to appear.
If he only used [Bash], he could never deal with those wild goblins. He needed more skills.
’’Come on.’’
Hurriedly, Vyral summoned the list of skills and bought the cheapest ones.
Heavy Strike (Rank F) Lv.1 – 4 Mystic Energy.
An empowered basic attack that deals 30% increased damage to the target.
Thrust (Rank F) Lv.1 – 5 Mystic Energy.
A straight thrust that pierces the enemy and has a 5% chance to cause continuous bleeding that cannot be healed by magic in 15 minutes.
Combo Slash (Rank E) Lv.1 – 8 Mystic Energy.
Unleash a rapid chain of 3–6 consecutive slashes against a single target in a short period of time.
Vyral let out a long breath before triggering the [Heavy Strike] skill. He brought his sword down on a goblin, cutting it in half effortlessly.
Nearby, three goblins also lunged at him. In the blink of an eye, three deep, bloody holes appeared in their chests as Vyral used the [Thrust] skill.
As time went by, more goblins appeared. Vyral tightened his grip on his sword and charged toward them. He had to take this opportunity to master these skills. But the first time was always difficult for everyone.
When he tried to chain the skills together, they didn’t flow the way he wanted. His movements felt disjointed and inelegant.
Some players nearby, who were hunting goblins elsewhere, smirked when they saw Vyral’s efforts.
’’Why is he trying to chain those skills together? Just use them one at a time.’’ A beastman mocked. free𝑤ebnovel.com
’’Just spam your skills.’’ He chuckled and continuously unleashed downward chops at the goblins, tearing them to pieces.
Some players nodded.
’’Right. What a waste of time.’’
Regardless of their mockery, Vyral ignored them and focused on his own training. He understood their mindset. It might work against weak goblins, but against stronger monsters, especially those with intelligence, that mindset would surely get them killed.
’’I don’t have time for this foolishness.’’
Just as he began to notice his progress with the skills, a loud, sobbing roar echoed through the area. Vyral frowned and turned his attention toward the source of the noise.
His expression immediately shifted to bewilderment.
’’An orc?’’
[Orc Lv.4]
The hulking orc slaughtered the players by its battle axe. The players struggled to unleash the powerful attacks, even magic rank E, yet it was just useless to Orc. After all, this orc had a unique ability in healing wounds.
’’I thought this village was only being attacked by goblins. If there’s an Orc, this mission must be Rank E.’’
Vyral’s expression quickly shifted to solid. He uttered.
’’There’s nothing better than real combat.’’
He was already bored of fighting goblins. They were no longer enough to help him improve. Tightening his grip on his sword, he rushed toward the Orc without hesitation.
He knew this battle would be quite difficult if he kept fighting like before, but he had no other choice at the moment.
Just surpass himself.
Vyral jumped into the air before triggering [Heavy Strike]. A bloody wound appeared across the Orc’s arms when it raised them like a shield. Green blood dripped onto the ground.
Vyral didn’t give the Orc a second to breathe. He continued using a series of skills he had practiced earlier—a combo he had devised and applied in real battle.
The Orc clenched its teeth in agony and roared. It swung its battle axe wildly, and some of its strikes sent nearby players tumbling away.
Vyral frowned as he realized his attacks still weren’t strong enough to inflict a fatal wound, so he quickly upgraded one of his basic evolutions.
Mystic Energy: 14.52 → 0.52
[Muscle Enhancement Lv.7] → [Muscle Enhancement Lv.MAX] – 14 Mystic Energy
+5 Strength
+4 Dexterity
Vyral’s speed increased instantly. Combining his enhanced body with the skills of a swordsman, he delivered deadly, precise slashes and looked like a true swordmaster, despite still having a few flaws.
In his final move, he triggered [Combo Slash] to create an opening before using [Thrust]. A deep, gaping hole instantly formed in the Orc’s head.
[You have slain an Orc Lv.4]
[+15 XP]
[+2 Mystic Energy]
[Obsidian Sword (Lv.1 Requirement) | Green Grade | Durability: 82% | Deals an additional 15% damage]
Vyral gasped in breath, yet a smile spread across his lips when he saw the new item.
Meanwhile, the other players could only stare at him in disbelief. They had never seen someone chain skills together so smoothly, except for players from the world’s top guilds – Phoenix, Black Raven, and Silverfang. Only they could elevate basic skills to such a level.
However, the players here didn’t know that anyone could do the same if they put in the effort. To put it simply, they chose to limit themselves.
