Chapter 6: Daemon Langford

Back at the hospital...

Arianna fluttered her eyes open and quickly closed them back due to how bright the lights were.

She had to blink a few times before her eyes adjusted to the lights.

For a moment, she thought she was in heaven due to how bright the space was along with the white painted walls.

’I’m in heaven,’ she thought, but the smell of antiseptic medicine wafted across her nose, jolting her awake even more.

’Where am I?" She wondered.

Her ears finally acknowledged the beeping sound of the monitor beside her. She looked up to stare at it with confusion marring her face.

’I’m alive?’ She couldn’t believe it.

The last thing she remembered was getting chased down in the forest and throwing sand in Logan’s eyes. Then the gunshots. The smell of blood and the feel of it trickling down her skin.

The last thing she heard was Vivian and Logan laughing at her state before she slowly slipped into unconsciousness.

And now, she was at the hospital.

She tried to move, but she winced in pain. She raised her hand that was punctured with the IV drip, a frown settling on her face.

She really was at the hospital.

She tried to move again, trying to sit up.

If she were at the hospital, then that could mean that Vivian and Logan had brought her here to treat her and then torture her however they wanted once she was well again.

She needed to make a run for it fast.

Quickly, she removed the tubes attached to her body, wincing in pain now and then.

Arianna forcefully pulled out the IV needle from her hand, blood quickly dripping out of the spot and staining the floor in crimson.

When she tried to stand on her own two feet, pain instantly shot to her back, a painful reminder that she’d been shot there.

She placed her hand on the bandage that had already dampened with her blood.

She stared at the stain with horror on her face. Yet still, she didn’t give up.

If Vivian or Logan saw her awake, who knew what they might do to her?

All of a sudden, the door shot open and a figure walked inside.

She made eye contact with the coldest eyes she’d ever seen. Even her father’s eyes weren’t as cold or empty as his.

The figure before her was tall with a face that seemed displeased with her.

He looked familiar, as if she’d seen him before but she couldn’t remember where. Also, he didn’t look like one of Logan’s bodyguards in case he’d sent one to come watch her.

The man’s eyes shifted to glance at the IV needle that was hanging over the stand now, then at the bloody stains on the floor.

His frown deepened, his face twisted in more displeasure.

"Call the doctor," he said to the other man whose presence she was just starting to acknowledge now.

They shared a familiar face, except that the other one looked younger.

He gave a curt nod before he stepped into the ward.

"I didn’t think you were the type to actually rip out an IV drip like that," he said as he walked towards her.

"Who are you?" There was weariness in her tone, the one that made her suspicious of the man before her.

"I was the one who saved your life," he responded, his expression lazy as if he did that as a hobby and it wasn’t interesting anymore.

Arianna’s eyebrows furrowed in confusion.

’Saved.’ She thought. ’I was saved by this man?’

She took a once-over from him. From his stance to the aura emanating from him, she could already tell that he wasn’t an ordinary person.

"But why would you save me?" She asked.

Daemon was stunned for a second, completely caught off guard by her question. He hadn’t asked himself the reasons for his actions so he was completely tongue-tied.

Fortunately for him, the doctor came in and when he saw the mess around, he bolted towards her, along with the nurse.

"You’re awake. That’s a good thing. Do you remember your name?"

Arianna glanced at the strange man before she turned her head towards the doctor.

"Arianna..." She paused for a second. She was still married to Logan, which meant she was still bearing his last name. But he’d betrayed her unfortunately. "Arianna Wesley." fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm

"Do you remember how you got here?" The doctor asked.

She shook her head. "I have no memory of that."

The doctor quickly did a check-up of her vital organs while the nurse cleaned up her wrist.

The entire time, Daemon’s gaze never left hers. He watched her like a hawk and his skin prickled at his gaze, goosebumps appearing on them.

"I think you’re going to scare her off if you continue to look at her like that. She looks uncomfortable." Fredrick whispered close enough for only Daemon to hear his words.

His brother shot him a deadly glare, causing him to shut up.

"If you don’t mind, could you please excuse us?" The doctor suddenly asked.

Daemon’s face darkened. "Why?"

There were so many accusations in that one word as if he suspected the doctor of doing something to her, putting her in harm’s way.

"Actually, I have to ask her some personal questions and I don’t think she’ll be comfortable with you here," the doctor replied.

Daemon glanced at Arianna who was already staring at him. All he wanted to do was to hold her until she felt comfortable around him. But that wish was still far-fetched.

He turned to leave without saying a word.

As soon as Daemon was out of the room, Arianna turned to the doctor.

"Who’s that man?" She asked.

"He was the one who brought you in here two weeks ago. His name is Daemon Langford."

She stilled for a moment. No wonder he looked familiar.

Daemon Langford, the eldest son of Jerry Langford, her father’s mortal enemy.
