Chapter 5: Two Weeks Later
Two weeks later...
A man watched a figure lying on the bed intently, his hand enclasped around his mouth, thinking deeply.
He watched as her chest rose and fell, which indicated that she was alive. However, she’d been asleep for so long it didn’t seem like it anymore.
If not for the monitor with a line that spiked and fell, he would have thought she was already dead.
Daemon’s dark eyes continued to watch Arianna. It’s been two weeks, two weeks since he tracked her down to the damp forest and found her almost lifeless body, surrounded by wolves, two weeks of staying in the hospital, patiently waiting for her to wake up.
The door suddenly opened and a man walked in. He glanced at Daemon, then at the woman who’d managed to catch his attention for a while now, then back at Daemon.
"We have to leave. Father is asking for your presence."
"Tell him I’m not coming," he responded, his gaze never leaving Arianna.
The other man took a deep breath and sighed. "This might sound unbelievable, but he threatened that if you didn’t come, he would promise marriage to one of your past bed warmers."
Daemon’s eyes instantly shot to Fredrick, really hoping that he was joking. But the latter held a solemn look. He couldn’t possibly be joking.
Those words sounded like what his father would say.
Sighing, he stood up to his feet and walked towards Arianna. The doctor already informed that she was out of danger but he still felt restless about her.
He placed a soft kiss on her forehead and turned to the door to leave, Federick following right behind him.
A few minutes later,
They arrived at the Langford mansion. It was as huge as anyone could imagine. Trees everywhere, a huge fountain sitting in the middle of a large acre of land. Lights shining around the house.
It was the kind of house that armed robbers dream of intruding. The price for a single piece of furniture was more than enough to provide for their luxury lifestyle for over a year.
Daemon walked into the living room, a stoic expression on his face. He despised coming to the Langford main mansion where his parents lived.
He’d lived and grown up in the mansion until the talk of marriage came up. At dinner, it was the thing they would ask about. It was starting to bug him so he had to move out for his own peace of mind.
"Father," Fredrick called. "I told you I can get him to come. Your threat worked."
Daemon took a seat on the couch, completely ignoring the eyes that fell on him. He hadn’t even said a word yet but he was starting to get uncomfortable.
"Daemon," his father called.
Mr. Langford, a man in his mid fifties but looked strong and healthy as if he were in his late thirties. He had slight wrinkles at the sides of his face. Eyes as cold as ice as he watched Daemon.
"Aren’t you going to acknowledge your father?"
Daemon took a moment, braising himself.
"If you’re going to talk about marriage, I don’t think there’s anything for us to talk about."
Mr. Langford laughed, his voice sounding off in the living room.
"You’re my oldest son. It’s only right that you marry before your brother and sister, don’t you think? My friend’s children have all gotten married and he has grandchildren to play around with. I don’t have any because you’re being too stubborn about this."
Daemon sighed once again.
All he wanted was to stay with Arianna at the hospital and be there when she woke up. Not to have this sort of conversation with his father.
"However, a little bird has told me that you’ve been spending so much time with someone lately."
Daemon’s head quickly spun to Fredrick who immediately shook his head in a it’s not me manner.
"I believe she’s Ariana Wesley?" The air stilled for a moment. "The daughter of Derrick Wesley?"
Daemon’s grip instantly tightened, gnashing his teeth together.
"I would advise you to start developing feelings for one of your bed warmers real soon, because a Wesley getting married to a Langford will be over my dead body."
The temperature dropped. No one dared to make a sound or move.
The air turned suffocating, making it almost impossible for anyone to breathe.
"That’s not for you to decide, Father. Who I get married to or have feelings for is none of your business," Daemon snapped, his eyes flaring in rage. freewebnovel.cσ๓
Mr. Langford leaned back into his seat, his eyes never leaving Daemon’s.
"She’s in the hospital, isn’t she? All alone. Who knows what could be happening to her right now? For all we know, I’ve already sent out one of my men to unalive her."
Daemon stood up to his feet, rage pulsing off his finger.
"You wouldn’t dare do anything to her," he said, almost too confident.
His father cocked an eyebrow at him, amusement flashing across his face, but it quickly disappeared as if it was never there.
"Her father killed your mother," Mr. Langford stated. "They murdered her in cold blood and now, you want to get together with someone related to your mother’s murderers.
Daemon’s heart pricked in pain.
He could remember that night. It vividly appeared in his memory as if everything had happened just yesterday.
The cries, the blood, the laughter that followed. He remembered everything. Except, he didn’t remember it the same way everyone else had. He was the only one who knew what had happened that night, and he could never bring himself to tell the truth.
Daemon turned to leave. He’d heard enough. ƒгeewebnovёl.com
He needed to return to Arianna to make sure she was alright. His father may simply be joking around, but one could never be too sure.
Mr. Langford watched Daemon leave the mansion, his nose flaring in anger. But he decided not to take any action in stopping him.
Daemon would eventually learn the hard way.
