Chapter 9: Ch 10: First Training Session

Kael took Leon for training while Seraphina stayed behind and looked after the mansion.

Leon followed Kael with a clumsiness he had not shown in years and it made Kael feel fond and nostalgic. He let out a chuckle which made Leon curious, but the younger boy did not ask any questions.

They arrived at the training grounds for the first session and Kael handed Leon a sword.

Leon had mastered various weapons in his past life, but Kael still remembered that he preferred a sword above all.

’I know I can use other weapons, but handling a sword feels natural. It’s like my sword is a part of me.’

That was what Leon had told Kael once so he figured that starting with a sword would be the easiest for Leon.

"Here! Grab this sword and attack me. I need to see your current skill level to begin your training."

Kael told Leon and Leon grabbed the sword. But he did not attack Kael and stood frozen in front of him.

Kael waited for a few seconds before he realized that Leon had no intention of attacking him. So he used a spell to force Leon to move and attack.

It worked, and Leon moved. But he still did not attack Kael as he wanted him to.

"Leon, is there a reason you are not attacking me?"

He asked with concern but Leon flinched at the gentle tone before he looked down at the sword in his hand.

"I...don’t want to attack you. What if I accidentally hurt you?"

Kael looked at Leon with a surprised expression before he let out an amused chuckle. He could not help it since Leon’s question was so surprisingly innocent.

There was nothing Leon could do with his current strength to hurt Kael. He was the Grand Master while Leon was an untrained hero.

Even a kid could tell who had the upper hand.

"It’s alright. There is nothing you can do to hurt me, so come at me with your worst. I need to know your current skill level to train you."

Kael reassured Leon and he nodded before he tightened his grip and attacked Kael.

The first strike was heavy and well-practiced. Leon seemed to have some formal training because he was handling the sword better than Kael anticipated.

But Kael was older and much more experienced so he was easily able to push Leon back.

Leon stumbled for a second before he changed tactics and attacked Kael from the side. It was a feint and Leon tried to attack Kael from the other side.

But Kael easily saw through this and knocked Leon off his feet.

It was a quick match with a clear winner. But Kael could not help but feel like Leon was far too good for someone who had no formal training.

"Hmm, you did far better than I anticipated. Where did you learn to wield the sword?"

Leon froze for a second and his eyes looked around in panic before calming down and answering.

"The people at the temple trained me. They said that since I was the hero, I needed to know how to use a sword at least."

Kael had a hard time believing Leon. He knew the temple’s techniques well but the ones Leon performed did not look like the temple’s teachings.

At the same time, Kael could not think of any other reason behind Leon’s sword knowledge so he decided to accept that explanation and not think about it.

"I see. Well, since your swordsmanship is at this level, I won’t be able to teach you much. I will arrange for a teacher. But what I can teach you is magic. Let’s start with the basic spells."

Leon took a sharp breath, almost as if he was regretting his decision. But he ultimately nodded to show that he understood.

Kael demonstrated the basic technique to circulate mana and Leon grasped it immediately. But he was still horrible when it came to using magic.

’It looks like Leon still has no talent for magic. This time, I won’t force him to train in magic. It would be better if he focused on becoming a sword master and training his aura instead.’

...

The first training session did not last long. Kael decided to take it easy because he did not want to overwhelm Leon.

They came back around lunchtime and Kael waved his hand to clean himself and Leon up.

Seraphina was in the kitchen when they returned. She already had food on the stove, so Kael decided to help her out with setting up the table.

The warm meal made Leon sleepy and Kael told him to take a nap. And that left him and Seraphina alone.

It was still afternoon so there was no point in preparing dinner. So Kael decided to continue his experiments. He recalled a few he had started around this time, but never gotten to finishing.

With his future knowledge and mastery of magic, he decided to give those experiments another try...or at least that was the plan.

But one look at Seraphina made him change his mind.

The girl sat at the dining table, waiting for Kael to leave the room. He did that, but waited outside to see what Seraphina would do.

But she did not do anything. She kept sitting at the table and looking at her hands.

’Why is she not going to the library to look through the books as I asked? Is she...feeling shy?’

The Seraphina Kael remembered was shy and usually reserved. So it was possible that she was feeling awkward moving around in his mansion even with permission.

Usually Kael would have left her alone and allowed her to come to terms with her feelings. But he decided to interfere this time.

He wanted to make Seraphina feel welcome as soon as possible and if she needed his help for that, then he would give it to her. freёweɓnovel.com

"Seraphina, is everything alright? You were sitting here for quite a while. Did you not like the books in my library? I can order some more if you want."

Kael asked her, but he already knew that his library was not the problem.

In fact, he was sure that Seraphina had not even seen his library yet and she was not going to if he left it up to her.

So he had to give her a small ’push’ to make her interested in books and learning.
