Chapter 43: Ch 43: Finding the Demon Queen

’Hmm, looks like this situation is over...for now. But knowing the Cardinal, it won’t be long before he plans something else.’

Kael let out a frustrated sigh as he walked out of the temple with the others.

He could have teleported them all back home, but the looks he was currently getting told him he should not overexert himself with his magic.

So they decided to take a carriage back home for now.

The Holy Festival was finally over and only the decorations were left up. It was a depressing end to such a happy occasion.

But the kids seemed to enjoy looking at the decorations, so Kael did not feel as bad. But it was time to head back now.

"Let’s rent a carriage now. Iris, would you like to try your hand at negotiating for a better price?"

Kael asked, and Iris froze.

"I don’t think you should leave such a responsibility to me. I have never handled money before, so I don’t know what the right price is-"

"It will be fine. You can likely tell when someone is ripping you off based on their expression. Besides, how will you get better if you don’t practice?"

Iris opened her mouth to argue but realized that she had no counterargument. Kael accompanied her and watched as she bargained.

Not that the driver put up much of a fight.

After all, Iris looked intimidating enough that it was hard to tell her ’no’ or argue with her.

She beamed as she came back with the price she had negotiated with the driver and Kael patted her on the back for a job well done.

Once their mode of transportation was secured, it was time to gather Leon and Seraphina and head home.

That was the plan at least. freёwebnoѵel.com

But the kids had disappeared.

"Where did those two go?"

Iris asked in a worried voice and Kael sighed before he used his powers to find them. They were near an alley and looking at something lying on the ground.

Kael came near them and noticed that it was a small injured beast that looked like it was on the verge of dying.

It was not something that he needed to get involved in. Beasts died and were born every day. It was the cycle of nature.

But the look in Seraphina’s eyes made Kael pause.

"-for the last time, we cannot take this back with us. Who knows how it was trained? What if it bites you? What if it bites Kael? Do you want Kael to get sick?"

Leon was currently arguing with Seraphina about why they should not take a random dog back home. And Seraphina seemed to be getting convinced by him.

But one look at the injured animal and all that understanding went out the window.

"I know what you mean, Leon. But look at that poor creature. It’s injured and I want to help-"

"Then you can use your powers as the saintess to make it feel better. But we should probably not take in a wild beast-"

"But it will die if we leave it here. Look at it! This dog is so small and injured. Do you think Kael would refuse if I asked him?"

Seraphina looked like she was on the verge of crying. But it did nothing to change Leon’s decision.

"Hey, stop crying or else-"

"It seems like you both found something interesting. Can you let me see as well?"

Kael asked as he stood above their heads and looked down at the kneeling pair.

Both Leon and Seraphina had guilty looks on their faces when they looked back at him. Kael felt sorry for these kids, since they had not done anything to feel guilty about yet.

So he ignored their looks of discomfort and looked at what they were looking at.

It was a small beast that was injured and struggling. It looked like the same beast that Leon had brought back in his past life.

That time, Kael had no idea who this creature was and he had treated it like a pet after Leon had saved its life.

In the end, this beast turned out to be the Demon Queen who had been cursed to become a beast. And she had ended up being obsessed with the person who saved her life.

’Out of everyone, I can understand her obsession the best. Leon saved her life when she was a beast and brought her back. I did end up looking after her once she was with us, but the one who saved her was Leon.’

The Demon Queen was unconscious right now and it felt like the right time for Kael to take her in if he wanted her not to become obsessed with Leon.

Since she was unconscious, she would not know who saved her life so the obsession would not form.

As for letting her die...

Yeah, that was not an option.

A demon-human war would begin in a few years where Leon would make his debut as a hero. It was a fight that would make him become cold-hearted and start repelling other people.

Kael wanted to avoid that scenario as much as possible. And to make sure of this, he needed to save the Demon Queen and break her curse before proposing a deal.

Seraphina gave him the perfect opportunity to be able to take the Demon Queen in without causing much suspicion.

Her wide eyes looked at him with a begging expression and she tugged at his pants.

"Teacher, can we take in this poor creature? I don’t think it will make it past today if we don’t bring it back."

Seraphina was a kind soul and Kael almost felt bad for taking advantage of her. But he needed to do it if he wanted to make sure the Demon Queen did not end up becoming a disaster.

"Alright, we can bring the beast home for now and treat her until she is all better."

"But what about the room-"

"I think we have more than enough room at my mansion. Leon, is there another reason we should not help this beast out?"

Kael asked in a worried voice. It was not like Leon to object this strongly.

Leon looked at him for a moment before he shook his head to show that he did not have a problem with it. But his face kept telling Kael that he did seem to have a problem with this decision.
