Chapter 49: Chapter 49 - Will Something Happen In Someone Else’s House?
5 p.m.
- (Me). "We’re finally here."
- (Phoebe). "I’m a little nervous..."
- (Runo). "Don’t worry, my dear Phoebe. Sister Olivia doesn’t bite, and the other people are quite nice and calm. My old friend has always successfully and accurately established friendly relationships only with good people."
- (Phoebe). "Yes, but... it’s still a little scary."
I can understand Phoebe’s feelings since we are now... in a huge parking lot surrounded by luxurious VIP cars, and across the road from us is a giant mansion where Sister Olivia lives and where the celebration will take place.
We got out of the car with gifts in our hands and headed for the main gate of this... villa?
- (???). "Name?"
- (Runo). "The Namgung family..."
There were cameras in several places, which were part of the building owner’s digital security system, and there was also an intercom nearby, and most likely, the unknown voice belonged to one of the security guards.
- (???). "The Namgung family... Runo, Phoebe, Karin, and Sohen? You are on the guest list. Please come in."
The automatic doors opened, and we freely entered the estate.
We were met by two security guards who were behind the doors, greeted us, and advised us where to go to meet the birthday girl.
- (Me). "Hm? You..."
One of the security guards was familiar to me.
He was an elite fighter from the world’s largest mixed martial arts organization with a record of 12-0.
Our eyes met, but we didn’t say anything and just nodded our heads in greeting.
(So you’re a bodyguard... Sister Olivia has some very influential friends if people like this are just part of her security detail...)
We first met about five years ago at a martial arts tournament held in Japan, which I... also participated in.
Few people know this part of my biography, and that’s very good for me.
Let’s just say... in my youth, I did many things that not everyone would understand, and it would be better if all that remained a secret.
I am not an ordinary person, and I even have a certain authority in the criminal world, but older brother Phoebe is not directly involved in crime... if you don’t count underground fights in martial arts arenas.
He knows many people who are better left unknown, but he is also known by people from this little-known world, who try not to get involved with him and maintain normal or at least neutral relations with him whenever possible.
Sohen will explain this part of his biography in more detail someday, but now he has come with his family to congratulate his grandmother’s close friend and have a pleasant time. freewёbnoνel.com
(I competed with this security guard? ... Yes, and I won the fight, even though I was about 17 at the time and he was over 30. His streak of 12 wins without a loss belongs to professional statistics. There are also amateur and underground statistics, which show that he has losses, but it still deserves respect...)
- (Phoebe). "Wow!!!"
We moved on and couldn’t help but be surprised by what we saw.
The huge total area, the facade, the panoramic pool, the terrace, and the house itself... it all seemed like something from another world.
(So this is how rich people live... Incredible, but I’m not interested in that kind of thing, and I prefer a more modest look.)
Sister Olivia was a very... VERY wealthy woman who inherited a lot of property from her father, estimated to be worth several billion dollars.
This estate previously belonged to Sister Olivia’s father until he died many years ago and left it to his youngest daughter.
(The former owner of the house was a typical person with connections, power, and money, who presented himself as almost a king with a delusion of grandeur, and how strange that his youngest daughter grew up to be such a good person who helps others and believes in God... Unbelievable!"
A few minutes later, the birthday girl herself greeted us, and soon the party began...
...
Almost five hours passed, and to my surprise, it was all over... so quickly.
I didn’t expect this, but knowing the birthday girl’s character a little, I could understand why it happened.
A person who had lived almost her entire life modestly and believed in God was not interested in the pomp and glamour of luxury.
Of course, during this short period of time, there was an abundance of food on endless tables, pleasant calm music, many greetings, and conversations, but it seemed to me that everything would be conducted exactly as shown in the movies, but that didn’t happen, and overall it was probably for the best, since 95% of the guests had already left the estate, and only those people whom the birthday girl really wanted to see remained.
Most of the time, my grandmother talked to her close friend, and it seemed to me to be something... sweet.
Runo sometimes has a harsh personality, which is due to her past, and she has few real friends, so it was nice to see her happily talking to someone who had made a significant contribution to supporting her during the most difficult period of her life as a single mother in a city that was foreign to her.
My female relatives, myself, and about a dozen other women stayed to continue congratulating the birthday girl.
It was a little strange to be the only man in this company, and then even more so when alcohol appeared on the table, but I tried to be tactful and almost invisible to the others.
Soon, most of the women were drunk, so my help was needed to carry their bodies to the rooms that the owner of the estate had kindly allocated for the guests.
I was responsible for my women and helped them get to the third floor of the building, right to their assigned rooms.
(A four-story house with ten rooms on each floor... I don’t envy the maids or cleaners.)
- (Me). "My room is number 21, and for Runo, Karin, and Phoebe - 27, 28, and 29. Phew, I didn’t expect them all to be drunk."
Sohen rarely saw his relatives drunk, especially Phoebe, but today there was a reason, so I didn’t criticize them for it.
Sohen himself doesn’t drink alcohol on principle, and the only time he accidentally drank it was on Phoebe’s birthday, and even then it was against his will, as a drunk Runo forced him to try wine.
He felt sick that evening, and it was around then that strange changes in his physical condition and a strange fatigue that periodically appears in the morning began.
A few minutes later, Sohen was already in the room where he would spend the night.
His family could have gone home like most of the other guests, but he was a bad driver, and the other relatives were drunk, so they decided to stay the night in this house.
The room itself was spacious and had everything he needed, including even a small shower.
(Are all the rooms like this? The longer I stay here, the more I am surprised by some of the absurd things.)
He quickly took a shower and lay down on the bed in his underwear, then spent some time on his phone until he began to feel sleepy.
Sohen put his phone on the table and was about to go to bed, but the door opened and a woman entered the room.
(~sound of the door opening).
- (???). "There you are, dear..."
- (Me). "Huh???"
The room had large windows that let in enough moonlight to see her...
- (Me). "Grandma?"
- (Runo). "Hehe..."
This woman was Runo herself, who was still drunk and still wearing the same clothes, but with one change... she wasn’t wearing a jacket, and the only thing covering her upper body was a black lace bra.
- (Runo). "Honey... Let’s sleep together tonight. Okay?"
