Chapter 12: Julius sins
Yumiko was standing near the door of the washroom. She had a towel wrapped around her. Her damp hair stuck to her neck and shoulders. Her face was a mix of surprise and curiosity.
The water was still running. Which was why Julius hadn’t heard her walk in.
A moment passed between them.
"Could you pass those to me?" She pointed to her clothes on the other bed.
Julius reached his hand to pick them before handing them over to her.
She took the clothes. Pausing for a moment to look at him before going back to the washroom.
His eyes wandered while she did this. Droplets of water clung to her ears. The towel covered her chest up to her thighs. Her chest swayed slightly as she reached for the clothes.
His eyes moved to her legs and then to her feet.
She was wearing his footwear. Both of them were soaked.
"Why do you have my slippers?" He pointed to her feet.
Yumiko’s eyes followed in the direction of his finger to look at his footwear.
She turned to look at him for a moment before heading back into the washroom without a word.
Julius looked down at his bare feet. Then at the closed door.
"Those were my only pair," he said to no one.
Julius looked at where she had been standing for a moment. He was going to lay down some rules for her later. He returned his attention back to the system Interface where a new pop up was waiting for him.
[Host: Human]
[Physical Development : Low]
"Tell me something I don’t know."
[Skill Unlocked: Foundation]
[Doing strenuous physical activity improves your body and gradually changes your form to be more efficient and functional. Results compound over time.]
"So it’s like working out and seeing improvements."
[Yes. but you improve faster. Without this skill it would take you months to produce results that would now take lesser time. This fixes that]
[This skill also helps improve certain parts that may not have been adequate for certain races]
"What do you mean?"
[Your biology may be adequate for fellow humans or beastkin, but certain races like Orc women require more.]
Another screen appeared frёewebηovel.cѳm
[Skill Unlocked: Resonance]
[Through bonds you gain temporary access to partial racial abilities of your companions. The access is borrowed, not owned.]
"So the protocol comes with a gym coach feature and performance enhancers. Got it."
The system did not offer a response.
"So this is all to aid my main quest. Breeding peace?"
[Yes]
"No regeneration or healing?"
[None at this tier]
"That sucks,"
[You will need medical items or a healer. Be careful lest your sword — ]
Julius closed the screen.
The washroom door opened again. Yumiko came out, still in the towel. She was dryer now and still wearing his foot wear.
She set them on the floor beside his bed without a word and went to sit on her bed.
Julius entered the wash room. There was a spare towel on the rack, alongside Yumiko’s clothes that were wet and hung out to dry. He kept his phone at place water wouldn’t splash on it.
He proceeded to use the water to wash and scrub his clothes. He took a shower, which was refreshing, considering he hadn’t bathed in days. The water came from a pipe system.
He came out in his towel.
Yumiko was sitting cross-legged on her bed staring into space. The towel didn’t provide proper cover for that position.
A part of her upper thighs were exposed showing part of the markings on them. Something about them and the pose made a part of him elevated slightly.
A set of footsteps and a knock interrupted his thoughts.
Julius walked past her. Her expression shifted as she saw something on his back.
Julius opened the door. Mudgob stood in the corridor with a tray — bread, two bowls of something warm, two cups of mudmilk and water.
He looked at Julius and then to Yumiko. His expression did not change.
"We were doing laundry."
"If you say so. The food is hot. Don’t let it get cold."
Julius took the tray and locked the door.
They both ate.
The bread was good. It seems bread was good everywhere. The warm soup had an after taste and was spicy but aside from that, he had no issue. The real test was the mudmilk.
Yumiko had taken hers without any complaints but then again she was from this world.
Julius took a sip. His brain took a moment, processing the odd yet sweet taste. It wasn’t milk as he expected. It was something else, familiar.
That’s when it hit him.
Mudmilk didn’t taste like milk.
It tasted like chocolate.
Julius looked at the cup. Then at Yumiko. She was already halfway through hers.
"You knew."
She shrugged. "It’s good."
