Chapter 4: Investment 4 — Student Council
The Adonite student council was made up of outstanding individuals. They were responsible for regulating the activities of students and organising events. The most prominent members were the president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer.
"Please, please students. Let’s all calm down," Leonard managed to get them to keep quiet.
"Since most of you already know me, that saves me the stress of a long introduction." The entire class laughed at his joke.
The wine-coloured haired girl by his side hit him on the side. Leonard immediately stopped laughing. "Ehem. I am Prince Leonard El Lingard, the president of the student council." He took a step back for his colleague to step forward.
"I am Futaba Eniweiss, the vice president. A pleasure to meet you all." Her calm voice resonated with the hearts of the students, the males especially.
"Futaba-chan!"
She was the first daughter of the renowned noble family, Eniweiss. Her father held the title of archduke, which was considered to be on par with the prime minister. Her background aside, she was also extremely talented in magic.
"August Randtel at your service." A male with sharp-looking eyes and pierced ears winked at the ladies.
"August-sama!" The ladies screamed, some fainting on their desks.
August Randtel, third son of the Randtel royal family. Extremely skilled with the sword and possessed killer looks. Every lady he came across fell for him immediately.
"Excuse me." A slender hand from the back pushed him aside. A velvet-haired lady with closed eyelids stepped forward. Her presence caused the whole class to go silent.
"Rose Yongard. Treasurer." Each of her words came out with a slight hint of superiority. Her body posture was kept firm and straight with zero room for errors.
She held the title of Adonite’s strongest mage after brutalising five final-year students in the last semester’s battle royale.
"Ahem. Now that all the introductions are done and dusted, let’s get down to the business of the day." Leonard paused briefly.
"The Annual Adonite Festival Week will be coming up in roughly a month’s time.
Here’s the interesting part, the Battle Royale that decides the strongest mage or magic swordsman in the academy and the top 10 strongest Adonite Scholars that comes with a lot of privileges. Or as we like to call it, the Adonite Showdown, will be held on the last day of the festival week."
Shouts and screams of excitement erupted in the classroom. Most students could barely contain their joy. The festival week was filled with all sorts of amazing activities and competitions. Most importantly, the battle royale was the most anticipated event.
"Calm down everyone. Allow the man to finish his speech," August stated and managed to stop the noise.
"Lastly, the student council currently has vacancies for two more incredible students. Under a unanimous decision of all the council members, we have decided to recruit Seria Ale Migalison," Leonard said boldly. "If she accepts that is. Isn’t that Seria?" His gaze shifted towards her.
"This bastard is as cunning as ever," Seria thought. Given the history between Leonard and his younger brother, Alex, this wasn’t a unanimous decision; he just wanted to spite Alex.
"I accept your offer," Seria replied.
"It would be our honour to have you." Leonard smiled.
"With the addition of Seria, that leaves just one spot. Do we have any candidate or candidates?" Futaba mentioned.
’This is going to be a good opportunity to keep an eye on Seria and maybe we could even bond better.’
Elliot raised his hand up. "I am interested."
"Oh, interesting!" Leonard clapped his hands in delight. "Are there any other people interested?" he asked.
"I think I would be a better option than some laggard." Liam raised his hand.
"Hahaha. The same laggard that stood up to a prince without wavering while you hid like a coward," Rose stated out of disgust for his irritating attitude.
"Now, now Rose." Leonard broke the ice.
"Why don’t you two have a little spar? Then the winner would take the spot. How does that sound?" His voice carried.
"It’s fine by me," Elliot replied.
"Tsk. I’m gonna show this laggard where he belongs," Liam grunted.
They all arrived at the academy’s arena. A circle of seats surrounded the battlefield in ascending order. Students of the first, second, and third years made their way to the arena.
"Did you guys hear? Liam and that guy that defended Seria at the welcome ball are going to have a spar."
"I admire the Elliot guy’s bravery, but Liam is just way above his league in strength."
The opinions of the students were biased. Elliot didn’t have a great reputation when it came to strength, but Liam on the other hand was known as a walking powerhouse.
Not only did he score an 87 in the aptitude test, but he was also 6th place overall in the entire entrance exams.
"Do you think your knight in shining armour stands a chance?" Edith asked Seria.
"I couldn’t care less," she replied.
"Still as mean as ever, I see," Deria laughed.
"Take up your swords," Leonard announced. Liam and Elliot both picked up their wooden swords.
"Begin!" Leonard stepped out of the arena.
Liam dove headfirst at Elliot with his sword. Their swords clashed as Elliot quickly reacted to his attack.
’It’s no lie that he is skilled and experienced. I can tell from his sword strikes. But!’
Elliot flipped upwards and lunged downwards, enacting enormous pressure on Liam, enough to crack the floor beneath his feet.
Liam thrust upwards and threw Elliot into the ceiling, but before he could crash, he crouched his legs against the ceiling and thrust down.
"He’s going to use the same attack again. How predictable," Liam thought.
Elliot streaked towards him from above. Liam attempted to counter him, but Elliot vanished from his line of sight. "Where did he g—" ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com
A heavy blow came from behind. He could only partially mitigate the damage with his sword as he was flung into a wall.
"You fucking bastard. You are gonna pay for that!" Liam spat blood from his mouth. His mana flared.
"7th tier spell: Tide Rush." His body became immersed in water and in the blink of an eye, he vanished from his position.
He appeared above Elliot and attacked with a heavy downward stroke that unleashed a gust. The ground beneath them shattered and dust erupted.
"How’s that, laggard!" He turned around basking in his absolute victory with a wide grin on his face. "Leonard! I have done away with the laggard," he stated boldly.
"I think you should look behind you."
Leonard pointed a finger at his back.
Elliot stood firmly with barely any scratches on his body.
Red mana exuded from his body. He clutched his sword tightly. "7th tier spell: Rondo Apec."
He moved step by step with his sword that now appeared to be a flaming dragon. It appeared as if he was performing some kind of dance ritual. He flipped above Liam and the flames disappeared.
"Hahahaha. It was nothing but a show after all!" Liam laughed.
Blood sprayed out from the multiple cuts that appeared on his body as he fell on the floor.
"How’s that for a laggard?" Elliot stood over him with a wide grin on his face.
