Chapter 3: Investment 3 — Cold Shoulder
"I don’t know what twisted plan you have cooked up in that head of yours. But I would appreciate it if you stopped getting involved with me."
The ice-cold look she gave Elliot sent shivers down his spine.
"And may I ask why?" He mustered the courage to talk back confidently.
"You are simply too weak, and you would only end up getting hurt because of me."
She let out those words bluntly with zero restraint. Before he could reply, two girls called Seria from behind.
"Seria. Seria!" They waved at her.
"We are gonna be late for our first class."
The green-haired and cheery girl, Edith, mentioned.
"Isn’t this the guy who stood up for you against that bastard prince?"
The red-haired and fiery girl, Deria, stated.
"I admire your courage, dude." She smacked Elliot on the shoulder. "Next time put in a punch for me, ok?" She winked weirdly at him.
"Aren’t you the ones who said we’re gonna be late? Shouldn’t we be getting going now?"
Seria cut in rudely.
"Ok, ok Ice Queen," Edith chuckled.
"See you around, Mr. Knight-in-Shining-Armour-kun." Edith and Deria waved him goodbye.
’They are just as kind and sweet to Seria as what I read in the novel. It’s a shame they died.’
The second tragedy that befell Seria was the death of her two childhood friends, which pushed her further down the path of darkness.
[Second quest: Save Edith and Deria]
[Reward: 10th-tier spell: Star Cleaver and the mythic-grade artifact: The Book of Wess]
’The Book of Wess? If I remember correctly, it was one of the four Sanctified Artifacts that the heroine used to defeat the last boss.’
Elliot headed for the classroom. He did not want to end up on the list of people who weren’t punctual to the first lecture. Plus, this lecture was held by the most ruthless professor in the academy, who was also the former commander of the Second Squadron: Dermiurge Cquan.
He had barely two minutes left until the start of the lecture. He ran through the hall. Luckily, the student council weren’t on their usual patrol, so there was no one to stop him.
Luckily, he entered the class a few seconds before Professor Dermiurge arrived.
"Good morning, students. I am Professor Dermiurge, and I will be taking you on the course: Dungeons." His voice carried.
"First of all, who can tell me what a dungeon is?" he asked.
A hand was raised at the front of the class.
"Yes, Liam." He pointed a finger towards the serious-looking dark-haired boy.
"Dungeons first appeared in our world approximately a millennia ago. The Great Saintess Eva and her trusty Knight Dion defeated the Malice Lord, who used dungeons as gateways to send his armies into our world." He made a brief pause.
"Dungeons in this era are closed fragments of the world of the Invaders that can only be accessed through portals," he explained meticulously.
The class gave him a round of applause even before the professor confirmed he was right due to his reputation as the prime minister’s son and a genius.
"Excellent!" Professor Dermiurge jammed his hands together. "As you all know, dungeons are divided into floors. The higher the floor number, the greater the rewards. About a century ago, it was discovered that rewards were given for every dungeon floor cleared."
"Babylis, the dungeon underneath the academy, has been cleared up to the 70th floor, but that doesn’t mean the monsters in the lower floors are weak fodder," he stated boldly.
"On that note, you will be going for your first dungeon expedition two days from now," he stated boldly.
Cheers and claps erupted in excitement.
"Finally, our first dungeon expedition!"
"I need to get an outfit ready."
Professor Dermiurge jammed his hands together. "That’s enough, students."
The noise died down. No one dared to even whisper. He continued his lecture smoothly, and then the bell rang.
"Make sure to prepare duly for the expedition. That would be all for today, have a good day." The professor left the class.
Liam walked up to Seria’s desk with a grin on his face that made it obvious he was there to make trouble.
"Seria, I heard about the annulment of your engagement with Prince Alex. It was truly unfortunate." His grin widened.
"No, you didn’t hear, you were also at the ball, weren’t you?" She placed a hand under her chin. "But you simply hid like the pathetic coward that you are. Did Alex threaten you again?"
Her words pierced Liam like a dagger to his heart.
’This fucking bitch,’ he thought
Edith and Deria came in front of Seria’s seat.
"Listen, you prideful bastard, our friend doesn’t want to talk to you, and you can go tell that bastard prince to go fuck himself." Deria gave him the middle finger.
"How dare—"
"If you choose to cause a scene here, it would just make you look all the more stupid. So I suggest you leave. Now!"
Edith said with a sweet yet deadly tone.
"This isn’t over." From the look on his face, he was very furious as he walked away.
"Seria, are you ok?" Edith asked.
"I’m fine." Seria kept her face as it was.
"If you aren’t, I can always put in a few punches." Deria flexed her arm.
"That won’t be necessary." Seria smiled slightly.
"Oh, oh, oh, is that a smile I see on the Ice Queen’s face?" Deria teased her.
’As long as they are around, I am sure she will be able to keep on smiling.’
The class door opened slowly. Four students stepped into the classroom. As if they had some kind of slow effect placed on them, their body movements were slow, and the aura around them was serious and cool at the same time.
A golden-haired male with a few dark-streaked strands of hair spoke first.
"Good morning, first-year students of our esteemed Adonite Academy. I am—"
Cheers and claps erupted before he could finish his speech, highlighting his popularity. frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓
"It’s Prince Leonard!" a girl screamed.
"Our glorious Futaba!" A row of boys fell unconscious.
"The Student Council rules!"
