Chapter 25: Investment 25— The Four Seasons
"Ahahahaha. I take my former statement back. You aren’t a wimp, alright, but one hell of a scary lover boy," Draken’s loud laugh echoed in the space.
"You remind me so much of him," he referred to his deceased master. "If I get my hands on that bastard god..." He scratched his finger on his throne.
"I guess it’s my turn to wrap things up. You, our master, are the shepherd that is meant to guide the heroes of the golden age. Our contractors, which you call the Four Seasons. They are four children whom each of us blessed at birth with dominion over the seasons that govern this world."
His eyes drifted towards Elliot.
"For their own good, I implore you not to tell them of anything we have just told you," he stated.
"But aren’t they supposed to be my trusted allies? Why should I hide anything from them?" He couldn’t stand the thought of hiding things from his comrades.
"Even a leader is meant to keep secrets from his subordinates," Kalehan uttered words that did not make sense to Elliot at the time.
"When playing a game, you just have to hide some tactics from your teammates in order to deliver a killing blow to the boss," Yuki advised him with his gamer status quo. Elliot couldn’t relate; he was never a fan of video games.
"It’s because the mother hen shields her chicks from the outside world that they don’t go wandering into dangerous woods," Calydia referred to a chicken in her own advice. This was the most confusing so far.
"Lastly. The infernal flames may cause destruction, but they lay the groundwork for rebirth." Draken opened his palms and wisps of flames danced on them.
"I don’t really get your advice now. But I am sure I will understand them sooner or later." Elliot rubbed the back of his head. freewebnσvel.cøm
"We call upon the Four Seasons." The vassals’ voices echoed in unison.
Lights beamed from the ground upwards. From each of the different coloured lights—red, blue, green, and orange—an individual emerged.
"Whoa! Being unable to move for a while has made my muscles stiff." Deria walked out of the orange light.
"Oh, I almost forgot my introduction." She chuckled.
She made a V-shape with two of her fingers and placed them above her eye.
"Bringing to you the sublime desolation and creativity of Fall. Deria Peronaz." She struck an aura pose.
"Really?!" Edith rolled her eyes at Deria’s showcase.
"Delicate as flowers, but yet dangerous like a rose. Bringing to you the vitality of Spring. Edith Cloklein." She placed her hands back and leaned forward as a bright smile formed on her face.
"It’s been a long time since we were last here," Seria’s voice echoed.
"In the stillness of winter, all beings are assured to think clearly. Bringing the everlasting moments of rumination. Seria Ale Migalison." She joined her hands beneath her chest and bent her head slightly, maintaining her noble presence and ice-cold demeanor.
"You guys are being way too formal. Hahaha." Taumus burst into laughter.
"Burning with the passion to destroy. The proud contractor of the Vassal of Destruction. Bringing you to the blazing heat of Summer."
He flipped upwards and landed on the ground, striking the perfect aura pose: head bent, knee buckled, and a wide grin.
"Taumus Havan at your service." He winked.
"The Four Seasons are present and await to carry the wishes of the Four Great Vassals of Creation."
Their voices meshed together with impeccable unity.
Elliot was genuinely shocked and also amused by their display. Four people that he somehow knew turned out to be the Four Seasons. Surprising, but yet suspicious, our brown-haired MC knitted a brow at the grand reveal he had experienced multiple times as an adept webnovel reader.
The Four Seasons were important individuals ever since the day they were born. The Mage Tower kept their identities hidden from the world and even their families. Only a few prominent sages knew about their blessings.
Every year, they were tasked with manifesting their various seasons all around Hale. A secret faction in the Mage Tower called the Seasons Guard Organisation, SGO for short, ensured and managed their safety during manifestations.
And so the myth goes in the world of Hale:
"In summer, a cuddle of warm hugs," "In spring, a bed of flowers," "In fall, a withering nest of leaves," and "In winter, a cradle of snow."
The current Four Seasons were the most powerful amongst their ancestors who came before them. It was also written in stone that in the era of darkness, the Four Seasons were the heroes that fought alongside the Saintess to banish the darkness. At least that was the story that was told to the masses.
"Ohohohohoho. My sweet Deria, it has been forever. I must say I love the look." Kalehan doted over Deria.
"Huh?! What’s going on?" Elliot was quite shocked that the calm and serene dwarf could actually dote over someone.
"Kalehan-chan. I forgot to get the cookies, but I brought choco milk." She brought out a bottle of brown milk from behind her.
"Yeeeeeeeee!" Kalehan streaked over to her and collected the bottle as he poured the milk into his mouth.
"Hmm. Delicious." He beamed with delight.
"Eh-Eh..." Elliot couldn’t believe his eyes. He looked around him completely dumbfounded.
"E...Edith. Caldiya missed you so much." Tears of joy flowed down her cheeks.
"Hahhhhhhh! My Goddess!" Edith flew into her arms.
"Why didn’t you use the infestation spell on that mongrel you fought?" Caldiya’s innocent tone changed into that of a gangster.
"Tsk. It’s because we were being monitored." Edith switched to her terrifying tone.
"The Black Ring, I suppose," Caldiya hissed. "Don’t worry, we will make them scream in agony." She grinned.
"That’s music to my ears." Edith rubbed her hands with a sinister grin.
"Hahaha."
"Hahaha."
A terrifying aura surrounded them as they both laughed mischievously.
"Yo! Seria, wanna play a game?" Yuki raised his tab up.
"It’s Wixon Grimmm," he exaggerated.
In a blur, Seria appeared on his bed.
"Don’t mind if I do, Lord Yuki." She collected the tab from his hand.
"Let’s see if you will be able to survive this time, Ice Queen." He grinned.
"You underestimate me, Father of Snow," Seria said with sharp eyes. She was a hundred percent invested in the game.
"My destructive warrior. How have you been?" Draken smiled at the sight of Taumus.
"I have been managing, old man." Taumus leaped upwards and sat at the handle of the throne.
"Still feeling down about breaking up with that weakling boyfriend of yours?" Draken clenched his teeth as throbbing veins appeared on his forehead.
"I told you to burn his entire town to ashes, then trample upon their remains." He raised both hands upwards and clutched them in a fit of rage.
"I thought over that idea more than once," Taumus hissed. "But that would just be genocide," he mumbled.
"Wait, Taumus is here too? I thought his affinity was shadow." Elliot received one shock after the other.
"Oh, about that, I have a double affinity. Shadow is my secondary affinity," Taumus replied.
"Flames is my primary affinity," he added.
"Now let the summit of the Four Seasons begin." Kalehan’s voice boomed.
