Chapter 12: Investment 12— Back to Square One
Elliot stood face to face with the angered Alex. Other students began to gather around them one by one until it turned into a crowd.
"Does he intend to disgrace Prince Alex again?"
"He might be a bit troublesome, but he is still a prince of this nation and he deserves some respect," a female student’s voice echoed from behind.
"I blame that whore Seria. Getting engaged to a nobody barely a week after their engagement broke off."
The other students nodded in agreement.
They kept on saying horrible things about Seria and Elliot. A pink-haired lady squeezed through the crowd and made her way to the front.
It was Flora. She was shaking, with tears pouring down her swollen eyes. She held several letters in each hand.
"Lady Seria....." She clutched her hands to her chest and fell to her knees as the letters dropped all around her.
"What have I ever done to you?" Her sorrowful voice cut through the noise.
"Why did you have to send such horrible things to me?" Her face looked absolutely miserable, and the flow of tears increased immensely.
"Why?!" Her voice cracked under intense emotional stress and trauma.
"Seria!" Alex drew his sword and lunged forward. Elliot managed to block his attack. Their swords clashed, sparks flying as Alex pushed forward.
"Move aside." He punched Elliot in the torso and lifted him off his feet into the sky.
’Was he always this strong at the start of the story?’ Elliot coated his body with mana to reduce air resistance. He then directed his upper body downward to change his trajectory.
"10th tier spell: Immortal Physique."
His speed tripled and he streaked
downward. He clashed his sword head-on against Alex’s sword. A gust of wind blew across the entire garden, throwing some students off their feet. freēwēbnovel.com
Elliot’s heavy strike crashed down, driving Alex half a foot into the ground as cracks spread beneath him.
The impact formed a shallow crater beneath his feet. The earth buckled under the force of the blow.
Sparks flew as their swords clashed, the pressure cracking the ground beneath them.
His legs sank into the fractured earth from the sheer weight behind the attack.
"I have had enough of this." Alex’s mana surged and he threw Elliot into a tree.
Elliot’s back slammed into the tree and the bark splintered inward. Blood spurted from his mouth.
A red-like aura surrounded Alex as he gripped his sword. He crouched low and held his sword backward. He vanished and reappeared before Elliot.
"11th tier spell: Overworld Slash."
A line of red light flashed. His slash moved beyond the perception of space and time. In a blur, he was already behind the tree.
Blood sprayed from Elliot’s chest as he slowly fell unconscious.
’I can’t fall here. I need to protect Seria.’
His vision started to go black.
"Seria!" Alex clenched his teeth and was about to take a step forward when Elliot grabbed his foot.
"Tsk. Do you want me to kill you?" Alex turned around and looked at him. His gaze was full of disgust and anger.
"Alex," Seria called out to him with her usual ice-cold tone and expressionless face.
"If you lay one more finger on him..." The air around the garden suddenly became freezing.
"I swear, you..." Her gaze drifted to Flora. "...and her won’t live to see another sunrise." A blue aura enshrouded her as the ground beneath her feet froze over.
"I dare you to try it." He kicked Elliot aside.
Edith and Deria rushed to his side.
"Elliot!" They grabbed him from behind.
"You fucking bastard." Deria clenched her teeth.
In a blur, Seria appeared before Alex.
"Di—"
Before her attack could reach him, Rose grabbed her hand and tilted it upward. A huge ice shard pierced through the clouds, and Leonard placed a sword on Alex’s neck.
"Hahahahahaha. This is peak cinema." A girl with dark hair and crimson eyes wearing the academy’s uniform swung her legs as she laughed in absolute elation on the roof.
She stopped laughing upon the sight of the student council members.
"Tsk. These rule upholders are no fun." She pursed her lips.
"After I put in so much work to make this happen." She stood, her hair fluttering in the wind. Then she glared at Elliot as a wide grin tore across her face.
"This isn’t over." She placed a hand over her lips as her cheeks got redder. "Himekawa Senji," she whispered before disappearing into the wind.
"Little brother of mine, I would suggest you put your sword down," Leonard said with a bright smile.
"And if I don’t?" Alex grunted.
"I suppose father wouldn’t mind you being out of commission for a few weeks." His smile grew wider as he said those words in a pleasant tone, but his killing intent could make a bear pass out.
"Tsk." Alex threw his sword on the ground.
"Seria. You seem to have a high intellect, so let’s not make this hard for either of us." Rose let go of her hand.
"I once thought of you as someone worthy of respect." Seria took a step forward. "But you are scum just like the rest of them," she said while maintaining her ice-cold demeanor.
Rose clenched her teeth in an effort not to showcase her anger.
"Alex Xu Lingard, you have been put on suspension on the grounds that you indiscriminately attacked Elliot Reingard," Leonard said as he sheathed his sword.
"No! Alex shouldn’t be punished. He was only standing up for Flora. It’s Seria that should be punished for blackmail."
"Yes!"
"I totally agree!"
A huge burst of disagreement towards Alex’s punishment erupted from the crowd. They were all in support of his actions and fully against Seria.
"I guess I should get going." Alex grinned. ƒreewebɳovel.com
"Flora. Let’s go clean you up." He picked Flora up and they left the garden.
"Based on the evidence here, Seria Ale Migalison, you will be put on suspension until proven not guilty," Leonard announced.
Seria couldn’t care less about her punishment; she was solely focused on getting Elliot treated.
She froze over his wound.
"Deria and Edith, help me carry him up."
Together they took him to the nurse’s office.
"What the hell happened to him?" The nurse stood from her seat and walked towards them.
"Let me help you place him on the bed over there."
They carried him to the edge of the room.
"13th tier spell: Hands of Healing."
The nurse placed her hand over Elliot’s body and a green glow emerged from it. His wounds and scars disappeared in a flash.
"As expected of a top-tier mage," Deria muttered.
"Oh please. You give me too much credit." The nurse smiled. "I have managed to stabilise him and heal his wounds, but it will take a few hours before he regains consciousness," she added.
When the nurse left, Seria sat beside him and placed her palms over his right hand. She then rested her face on it.
"Elliot, I am sorry. You wouldn’t have gotten hurt like this if not for me." Tears of regret flowed down her cheeks and dropped onto his chest.
"I didn’t know the Ice Queen could cry." Elliot chuckled upon regaining consciousness.
"Elliot!" Deria jumped onto his body.
"Hey! I’m still sor—"
Before he could finish speaking, Edith followed suit.
"The hypothetical chance of you still being sore is less than 0.5 percent," she mentioned.
Elliot placed his finger on Seria’s cheek and wiped off her tears.
"For every tear you shed, I will make sure the one responsible for this suffers a thousand horrible deaths." He looked at her with conviction and determination.
