Chapter 11: Investment 11— Problematic Prince
Two princes were born into the royal family, each from different mothers. Since childhood, they had been educated and drilled with top-tier education and training.
Prince Alex Xu Lingard was one of the princes. Ever since he was little, he had acquired the title of the problematic prince. He never played by the rules and always got himself into trouble.
The person who suffered his excesses the most was no other than Seria, his fiancée. From taunts to insults and then cheating, she endured all of it just because of her father.
"You useless child. The only useful thing you can possibly do for me is get married to that prince." Her father looked at her with eyes filled with disgust as he uttered those words.
She could have annulled the engagement a long time ago if she wanted, since she had every right and reason to do so. But Seria so badly wanted her father’s acknowledgement that she neglected her own wishes.
"If this is the only way to get him to see me, then so be it."
She worked herself to the brim, mastering her affinities and spells. Studied more than she was supposed to. Always topped her peers in every aspect, yet her father refused to acknowledge her.
Alex enjoyed the liberty of doing as he pleased until he finally decided to annul their engagement, and Seria was more than happy to oblige.
"I’m sick and tired of this self-absorbed bastard." This was the only thought she had when he annulled their engagement at the ball. She couldn’t care less about the accusations.
The people there would not have changed their minds no matter what she said; they simply hated her just because she was way above their league.
Prince Alex didn’t expect that she would get engaged a week after they publicly broke up.
"I refuse to accept this," he grunted inwardly. Not only was he brutally reprimanded by his father, but his reputation had also received a huge blow while Seria’s life continued without incident.
His carriage was already halfway to the academy, and he simply couldn’t wait to cause chaos in Seria’s life.
"Just you wait. When I’m done, you won’t have anything to hold on to." He grinned.
"Your Highness, did you say something?" One of the guards sitting outside the carriage asked.
"If I need something, I will ensure you are aware." He hissed.
In the student council’s office, the president and secretary were figuring out how to distribute the funds for the upcoming festival.
"Ahem!" August coughed.
"What is it?!" Leonard’s eyes drifted towards him.
"If only all the ladies could hear that tone of yours." August grinned.
"Your point?" Leonard continued writing.
"A little birdie told me that your little brother will be coming back soon," August mentioned.
"And so?" Leonard hissed.
"Aren’t you going to prepare a warm welcome to showcase your brotherly love?" August purposefully said those words to irritate Leonard.
Leonard snapped his pen in half. His mana flared, unleashing a slight gust.
"I implore you to choose your jokes wisely around me because you are my friend." He gave August a death stare enough to send chills down the spine.
"Hahahaha!" August laughed, stomping his feet against the ground.
"You and I," he stood and brought his face closer to Leonard’s, "know that—" He placed his fingers on Leonard’s chin. "We are more than just friends, or do I have to remind you about the other night?"
Leonard slapped his hand off and stood with a vexed expression highlighted by the throbbing vein on his forehead.
"You will do no such thing, Augusten." His voice carried authority.
The door creaked open and Futaba stepped through.
"It seems like you two are having quite the heated conversation." She let out a sigh and fell onto the couch.
"Did you guys hear?" Her eyes drifted towards them.
"Yes, yes. I know my brother is coming back." Leonard rolled his eyes.
"Ewwwww. Why would I want to carry around such sulky news?" She hissed.
"Ouch. That hurt." August placed a hand over his chest.
"Whatever." She laid back. "Seria and that Elliot guy are now engaged. They are currently all the buzz on campus," she stated with a slightly displeased tone.
A wide grin tore across Leonard’s face. "This means my troublesome little brother is sure to cause some chaos."
"And is that supposed to be a good thing?" August asked just to spite Leonard.
"Really?" he replied with a disinterested look.
"Things are about to get lively around here. I need to get some popcorn." Futaba smiled.
"Get some for me too, Fufu-chan." August made puppy eyes.
"Tsk. I told you I fucking hate that name," she hissed. "But how can I say no to puppy eyes?" Tears of joy flowed down her eyes.
"Hehehe." August gloated.
A few hours passed, and Prince Alex arrived at the academy gate.
"Open. We are with the royal family." One of the royal guards showed the academy guard the crest signifying the authority of the king.
They opened the gate. The instant the other students sighted the emblem, whispers and side talks erupted.
"I heard his father sent him to prison for an entire week."
"Nah. My source is more reliable, and they say he was locked in an isolation chamber without food or water."
"Where do you guys get these lies from? The king wouldn’t have done anything drastic to his potential heir."
"That makes sense."
"I second that."
Alex stepped out of the carriage with a fake smile plastered on his face.
"Guards. Take my stuff to my dorm room. I have something to attend to," he commanded.
He headed straight for the garden where he was sure to meet Seria.
"As expected. She still loves this place," he thought as he walked up to her. freēwebnovel.com
"Bastard prince incoming," Deria whispered.
At the sight of him, Seria was absolutely disgusted. Before he could reach her, Deria and Edith blocked his path.
"If it isn’t the barbarian and the oversensitive nerd," Alex addressed them with utmost annoyance and disrespect.
"The last time I checked, our bestie
doesn’t have anything to do with you." Deria glared at him.
"It seems your brain has yet to comprehend your own stupidity," Edith added.
"If you don’t move right—"
"Seria, Edith. Don’t worry, I’ll take it from here." Elliot’s voice echoed from behind.
"As her fiancé, this kind of thing ought to be my responsibility." He walked up to Alex.
"You fucking bastard!" Alex’s mana flared.
