Chapter 22: Chapter 22- Descending
Chapter 22- Descending
"Hey! Open the door!" Cipha slammed into the door with her body as she tried to open it. However, since it was locked from the inside, she couldn’t access it. All the staff and the pilot were inside, so she couldn’t even get the keys to the door.
The jet was spinning and shaking as it fell from the sky, and with each second, they were getting closer and closer to the ground. Zen noticed what Cipha was trying to do and immediately rushed toward her.
"Get out of the way, Cipha!" He yelled as he dashed toward the door. The girl quickly sidestepped and watched Zen shove his leg into the door. His strength, which was now on a whole new level, was enough to leave a dent in the door.
Then, Zen stepped back and kicked again with even stronger force. It got dented even more, but didn’t unlock.
’Come on!’ He clenched his teeth and kicked it a third time, using all his power. The door was blasted open with a loud bang, and the two immediately rushed inside... Only to stop in their place.
The entire place was covered in blood stains, and the stench of iron filled their nostrils... All the staff lay on the ground, swimming in their own blood. Just a simple glance at their condition made Zen’s stomach churn. They were bleeding from every orifice with their eyes wide open and lifeless.
They were all dead.
"What... happened here?" Cipha muttered in disbelief as she stared at the surroundings.
"No time to think now! Help me try to stabilize the jet!" Zen said as he approached the dead pilot. He was resting on the steering gear, which caused the jet to descend even faster than it already was.
Pushing the body to the ground, He pulled the gear up with all his power.
"Come on!" He clenched his teeth as he felt the entire jet shake and flip. Cipha slammed into the wall next to her as she tried to keep her balance while Zen gripped the gear with all his power. The jet spun around like an arrow as it started to regain some stability.
"Hah... Hah... We can’t stay here for long! This thing is still falling!" Zen said as he stared through the window. The fire had caught on other components of the jet, causing it to spread even faster. Even if Zen was able to flip it back up, he knew that it would just continue descending and then exploding.
"There are two emergency parachutes in the cabin," Ciphq replied as she turned around and rushed out, and toward the back of the jet, where she opened one of the closets. However, much to her horror... They weren’t there.
"..." She looked back, just as Zen reached her. Staring inside the closet, his expression darkened.
"You have got to be kidding me." He clenched his teeth. "Perfect... just perfect..."
His mind immediately started racing to think of a solution. They were stranded in the air in an ignited aircraft going down to its demise, and they didn’t have parachutes to escape from it.
Cipha didn’t know what to do. There was genuinely nothing they could use to jump out, and staying inside the aircraft wasn’t an option either.
"... Fuck it."
"Huh?"
"We are doing it the old-fashioned way," Zen said as he walked to the jet’s door and opened it. Instantly, a strong gush of air slammed into his body as he felt himself being dragged outside violently by the current. However, he quickly grabbed the nearest seat and looked at Cipha. "Come here!!"
"What are you trying to do?!"
"I’m going to tank the fall. I think we can survive if we jump at the right moment." He said.
"That’s insanity! You will die!"
"Do you have another option? We will either explode into pieces or try to tank the fall. Which do you want to do?" Zen asked calmly as he stared into Cipha’s eyes. freewebnovёl.ƈom
He could see the conflicting emotions within her eyes. How can she let him tank that? That means he could die. However, seeing the dead serious look on his face. Biting her lip in frustration.
"What are you going to do exactly?"
"Just watch. I will touch you, are you fine with that?" He asked. Cipha nodded, so Zen quickly grabbed her and pulled her toward his chest under her shocked gaze.
Peeking outside, he noticed that they were already close to the ground, a few hundred meters away, with a rough calculation.
’This will definitely hurt like hell, and I might break a few bones. But...’ He held tightly to Cipha. 400... 350... 300... 250...
The jet kept descending rapidly as Zen waited for the right opportunity. The fire had already invaded the interior of the jet and was slowly creeping toward them. Cipha watched in silence, her heart racing and yet oddly... She felt oddly confident. Something told her that Zen was going to do it.
150... 100...
*BANG*
Something exploded within the cockpit, sending large tongues of flame everywhere around them.
"Zen!"
"Not yet..." He said as he leaned forward. "Just not yet..."
Even as the fires were starting to burn his back and the temperature was rising rapidly, Zen held back until the moment he saw fit.
That moment... came several seconds later as the jet was merely 50 meters away from impact.
"Now!" Zen then jumped out as he wrapped his body around Cipha. The air slammed into him from every angle as if it wanted to crush him. He clenched his teeth and flipped his body around so it faced the ground.
’This is going to hurt like hell...’ He clenched his teeth and readied himself for the impact. A second later, his body slammed into the canopy below, flipping around through the leaves and branches as it softened the impact considerably.
"Agh!" Zen cursed as he felt the branches cut at his back ruthlessly before his body finally slammed into the ground violently. "Hah..." He sucked in a pained breath as he flipped around and released Cipha. The girl rolled to the side and then rose up. Aside from a small knock, she was completely fine.
"Zen! Are you ok?!" She rushed to her partner as she tried to check his condition. "You’re bleeding!"
"I’m... fine..." He said with a pained look as he held his side. "I think I broke a rib..." He said with a deep tone.
’Shit, shit, shit.’ He cursed. ’This hurts like hell.’
Swallowing the cry before it came out of his mouth, he flipped around and lay on his back as he tried to breathe. Each breath felt really painful and almost burning. However, he could tell that his Soul Essence was already rushing to that area to start the healing process. After ranking up, his recovery speed had naturally evolved to a whole new level. Eventually, Zen was able to rise from the ground.
"Here, let me help you up," Cipha said as she grabbed his arm and lifted him up. "We need to get you to a hospital as soon as possible." She said.
"I’m ok... I’m really ok."
"You can’t say that when you can barely stand straight."
"... Where... Where are we even?"
