Chapter 12- Battles For The Ages
Zen paved his path through the endless monsters. His sword didn’t stop swinging left and right as he tried to escape the trap he was in.

Each swing, he would see a notification pop in his retina and then feel his strength increase.

The power was streaming into his body endlessly while he simply absorbed it like a hungry breast. It was as if his body was starving for every soul point to reconstruct his body into something far stronger. What Zen didn’t realize at the time was that his body was already undergoing immense changes.
His height, weight, muscular build, and even bones were all evolving at a pace never seen before. He was completely changed beyond recognition, and he wasn’t slowing down either.
*Swish*
Zen dodged one of the rabbits before he stabbed it into the ground. Then, he quickly turned around and tried to run away. However, at that moment, several rabbits jumped on him from every direction.
’No, you won’t.’ Zen clenched his teeth as he spun around in his place, slicing the monsters like a whirlwind of blades. His speed and decisiveness made it extremely hard to penetrate his defenses.
However... Zen was aware that his domination wasn’t going to last long. As he emerged from the other side, the rabbits tried to surround him again, and this time... Their numbers were far more overwhelming.
As Zen was focused on cutting down anything that appeared within his vision, several rabbits took that opportunity and lunged at his feet. freewebnoveℓ.com
’Shit!’ Zen clenched his teeth as he tried to dodge them. However, he was just a tad bit slow as one of the rabbits opened its jaw and bit his ankle. Zen groaned in pain before he quickly stabbed the monster. Blood dripped down his foot as he quickly dashed to the side, slicing several monsters in his path.
’Dammit, I’m already getting overwhelmed.’
Wherever he ran, more and more rabbits found their way to him. He was trapped with nowhere to go. His only option at that moment was... to fight.
Looking around him, Zen took a fighting stance, his eyes threatening and his aura flaring angrily. The red hue around him grew even darker as he applied pressure on all the monsters around him. For a second, they all stepped back, fearing his ominous presence.
The terrifying entity that seemed to manifest around him the moment his aura left his body sent chills down their spines and kicked their instincts into full gear.
However, that feeling slowly faded away. They knew that Zen was trapped, and they outnumbered him in every way.
"If you think you are going to kill me... You really don’t know what you signed up for. Bring it on."
The monsters heard his provocative words and instantly reacted as they marched toward him.
’Let’s put my skills to the test.’
Flaring his aura even more, Zen dashed forward into the heart of the army. His sword swung around endlessly. Nothing around Zen was safe. He massacred every monster in his way. His speed and aggression increased even more, and with it... The Soul points increased rapidly.

Zen didn’t spare a second to even think. His instincts, honed by decades of experience being a Hunter, kicked in, and he was moving purely on his feelings. His body twisted and turned, barely dodging the monsters’ sharp fangs every single time.
He was able to easily predict where they would come from and change his direction almost instantly. However, even with all that experience and power... Zen was far from perfect.
*CHOMP*
"Agh!!"
A monster lunged on his shoulder and bit it, digging deep into his flesh. Another one bit his foot again, and a third one bit into his left arm. Zen quickly shook them off before they could pile up on him and swiftly killed them.
"Shit." Zen winced from the pain he was feeling. Blood was dripping down his body from the bite marks. Looking around him, the rabbit numbers have decreased to almost half, which made dealing with them a lot easier since he had more room to move.
"Hah..." Zen exhaled tiredly. ’My stamina is still far from good enough. A few minutes of intense fighting and I’m already gasping for air.’
Clenching his teeth, Zen spun around at the perfect time to grab a rabbit as it flew mid-air. Then, with his bare hand, he snapped its head, killing it on the spot.
At that moment... out of nowhere, Zen felt an immense rush of energy invade his body and made him freeze. Everything felt like it became white for a second as his entire body felt like it shut down for a second.
[You have gained +1 Soul point.]
[You have gained an additional point from your ’Soul Harvester’.]
[You have ranked up!]
[You have become a ’Rookie’.]
[You have gained a new rune.]
It was as if his body had suddenly broken through an invisible wall that set him back. His bones, muscles, cells, and everything about him underwent a change far bigger than anything he had experienced so far.
’I ranked up!’ His eyes lit up as he realized what had happened.
Ranking up as a Hunter was the biggest target you could work towards. Unlike normal power increase, when someone ranks up, they break through a limit they had been shackled by. It was an immense boost in strength.
His aura exploded everywhere around him, pushing the monsters away with even more intensity than when he awakened.
"Sigh... You are really unlucky." Zen said coldly as he stared at the rabbits around him. His eyes were cold and deadly. "You should’ve done it a lot quicker."
*Swish*
Like a ghost, Zen disappeared from sight with a speed that took the monsters by surprise. They couldn’t even see where he went before Zen appeared behind them, his blade already slicing through their bodies.
Then, before they could even react, he cut through several others. Like a phantom, he would appear near a group, cut them to pieces before disappearing. In less than a minute, the number of rabbits dwindled to a handful.
They grouped up in the middle, afraid and silent. Their eyes filled with terror. The enemy was somewhere around them, and they couldn’t see him.
Zen closed the distance, and with a swift move, he cut through their heads, decapitating them swiftly.
The last rabbit dropped to the ground dead, and Zen finally stopped as he exhaled a long breath. Looking around him, all he could see was a sea of corpses and the smell of blood filling the place.
"..." He remained silent for a few seconds before he read the notifications that appeared before him.
[Round 3 is over.]
[You have 3 minutes before the start of the next round.]
Zen stared blankly at the notification. His expression was calm and collected. Then, he inhaled and spoke.
"There is no way in hell I’m fighting this next round. 625 rabbits? Yeah, I’m out of here!" He exclaimed.
