Chapter 8: Step 8 to Greatness: Learn To Read Contracts Carefully
After Adrian’s ’employment’, the tribeswomen were huddled together at some distance. Every now and then, one of the women would peek at him, only to look away when their eyes met.
Although he got Sera as his ’slave’, Tribe Mother didn’t go back on her word and wanted to give him a ’wife’. Right now, they were deciding who it would be.
Meanwhile, Adrian was in the middle of a discussion of his own.
"Do you have something I could use to tame her for sure?" he asked, staring at Sera.
[Oi Brat! Didn’t I tell you not to care for that bitch? Why do you want her to be your slave now?]
"And I thought I was supposed to be the fool," Adrian sighed and shook his head. "She’s a player. Do I have to make it any more obvious?"
While being part of a tribe was good, there were things only players could do. Besides, Adrian still didn’t know much about the Savage Earth or the game they were playing.
"The women from the tribe can help me learn about the world, while Sera can help me understand the game," he said. "Besides, having a meat shield wouldn’t cause me any harm."
[Hm, if you want a meat shield, then treat her like one. I don’t want you to fall for her.]
[There is a way to ensure her obedience, but it seems you need to complete the introductory mission first.]

Although Adrian had a goal in mind, he still selected each type of contract to learn about them.
The partnership contract was just as its name suggested. It was a contract made for players who wanted to work together for the duration of the game.
Once this contract is signed, they cannot sign another partnership contract even after they nullify it. In simple terms, it was a lifetime contract.
The cooperation contract was similar, but worked for defined timelines. Once the time was up, the contract would automatically expire under both parties’ consent to a renewal.
Then there was the enslavement contract. Much like a partnership contract, it could also be signed only once between two parties. The only difference was the clear distinction between the two parties.
One had to be the master, the other had to be a servant. While the servant could demand some basic conditions, in the end, they would essentially become a dog for the said ’master’.
Adrian liked the contract until he read the last line mentioned in the contract. freewёbnoνel.com
"What is this bullshit?" Adrian cursed.
[Hehe, still want to contract her to be a slave?]
There was one section that wasn’t in any other contract.

Life dependency: After signing the contract, if one party is killed, the other party will also die.
xxx
Genuinely, what kind of bullshit condition was it? The one contract made for exploitation had such an absurd requirement?
Wait, it says killed. If they die from natural causes, then it wouldn’t matter, right?
In the savage world, there were countless dangers. Surely dying from them wouldn’t count as being killed.
Just then, his mind went back to the kill notifications. They always mentioned ’kill confirmed’. As long as he didn’t receive exp from the kill, he shouldn’t be penalized for it.
"Alright, let’s sign the contract."
[Boy, did you not pay attention? YOU. DON’T. HAVE. ACCESS. TO. CONTRACTS.]
"I know I don’t, but she does," he said, nodding towards
[Oh boy, you are evil.]
"Nope. Not at all. I would rather take revenge myself than wait for karmic justice."
The tribeswomen were still engrossed in discussion. So Adrian walked up to Sera, his hands behind his back.
"I want to sign a contract with you," he said, but Sera only gave him a confused look and was a bit scared. "Can you understand me?"
The blank look remained on Sera’s face. It made Adrian wonder if there was something weird going on there.
He didn’t know the tribal language, yet could converse with them. He knew the human tongue, but the players didn’t understand him. It was a strange world indeed.
In the end, he opened the private chat and sent Sera a text about signing an enslavement contract with her. Her eyes darted away, before widening in disbelief as if it was only then that she realized that Adrian wasn’t an NPC like they assumed.
Still, she quickly sent him a contract. Adrian was surprised it was so easy. However, he understood why Sera so readily sent him a contract.
[Bwahaha! That girl wants you to be her servant!]
"Thanks, I almost didn’t read that," Adrian replied sarcastically, before flicking Sera’s head and sending her another message, this time making his demands clear.
This time, it didn’t even take her a second to refuse. Adrian wasn’t disappointed, just pointed at the tribeswoman behind and made a throat-slitting gesture.
Then, making a troubled expression, he sent her another text.
Once again, Sera read it and almost broke into tears.
[Great, you made her cry. What did you even text her?]
Nothing much. Just that the women were deciding on how to kill her, and that becoming a slave is the only way she’ll live.
[Boy, you are evil. There’s no denying it now.]
Adrian didn’t react. After all, it was a lie that anyone with an ounce of brain would know. Unfortunately, all the nutrition went to her chest, leaving nothing for her mind.
That’s why a new contract arrived in Adrian’s chat within seconds. After going through it, he signed the contract, establishing a master-servant relationship with the girl.
It happened right on time because a couple of seconds later, Amiya came to fetch him.
"After discussion, Amika has decided to be your partner," Tribe Mother informed him, pointing at the uninjured twin. "However, before you mate, she has a condition."
Adrian was surprised that someone who was displeased to let him into the tribe suddenly wanted to be his partner. Then again, she had a condition, so Adrian thought she might have wanted to use it as an excuse to get him kicked out.
"What is it?" he asked.
"You must prove your worth through hunting."
