Chapter 27: Step 27 to Greatness: One Cannot Exploit The System Without Necessary Skills

It didn’t take long for the tribe to get busy. Adrian already had a lot of wolf hide to make reinforced hide armor from scratch. As for the bone scale armor, it was impossible to make it. freewebnovel.cσ๓

The entire tribe had to be armed for the potential fight. With the fifty-five kilos of wolf bones he had, he could either create a single bone scale armor or seven reinforced pelt armors.

The choice was an easy one.

He was planning to make everyone a set of reinforced pelt armor and then use the leftover bones to further ’reinforce’ his armor. He was also planning on making some accessories for Freki for his protection as well. All that would definitely use up his bone reserves.

However, before all that, some preparations needed to be made. Just because it felt like a game, it didn’t mean he would just have to place the items on the crafting table, and it would create an item card itself.

Adrian had to make the product with hand before it would be converted into a card by the table.

Thankfully, it wasn’t difficult. The moment he used the blueprint in his inventory, his head felt warm for a moment as all the knowledge needed to make the armor flooded his mind.

"Alright, let’s get started."

He sat down near the crafting table inside the longhouse and laid out all the materials. There were large wolf pelts, plenty of bone fragments, strong sinew threads he had saved from the wolves and the ones he got from daily settlement, and soft wolf fur for the inner lining.

Adrian picked up one big wolf pelt and spread it on the ground. He took his honed bone dagger and carefully made small holes across the surface of the pelt. The dagger cut through the tough hide easily thanks to his improved strength.

Next, he took the sharp bone fragments and placed them next to the small holes and some on top of them. The bones were arranged in neat rows so they would protect the body like small plates without the need of actual bone plates.

Once the bones were in place, he used the sinew to tie them tightly to the pelt. He pulled the sinew hard with both hands, making strong knots so the bones would not move.

After that, he took another layer of soft wolf fur and placed it on top of the bones, sandwiching the bone fragments between the outer pelt and the inner fur. It would make the armor more comfortable to wear and help stop arrows or claws.

Now came the hardest part: sewing everything together.

"...I don’t have a needle."

He didn’t need it before because the holes were big enough. But if he did the same to sew everything together, they could come undone at a crucial time. It would be disastrous.

Thankfully, there was a solution. He took a spear and broke the sharp stone off it, not to use it as a needle, but to sharpen a bunch of wolf claws and make a hole in them.

Once that was done, he passed the sinew threads through it and began stitching the two layers.

It wasn’t the first time he had stitched something. He had had plenty of practice in the past since he was a loner and had to learn everything from scratch.

His hands moved steadily as he pulled the thread tight again and again. It took time and patience. Sweat rolled down his forehead, but he did not stop.

He worked on the top piece for himself first, making a vest that would completely cover the chest and back. Then he made a sturdy skirt-like bottom piece that would protect the legs. He made sure both parts were flexible enough to move in but thick enough to stop attacks.

Adrian wiped his forehead and looked at his first completed set. It looked rough, but it was solid. The bone fragments were firmly held between the layers of hide and fur.

"Not bad for my first try," he said with a smile.

He carried the finished armor to the crafting table and placed it on top. A bright light flashed for a moment.

[Crude Quality Reinforced Pelt Armor (Common) created successfully!]

"Yes!" Adrian exclaimed, throwing a punch in the air.

A green card waited to be claimed at the ’output’ station. Adrian reached for it, but the moment he touched it, he received another surprise...

[Claimed: Crude Reinforced Pelt Armor card x1]

[Ancestor’s 10x blessing in effect. Gained 10 Crude Reinforced Pelt Armor cards.]

"FUCK! Why is the blessing active now? Couldn’t you have told me before!?"

[Boy... do you want to hear four-eyes scream? The blessing was intended to work exclusively with daily settlement. But it’s acting up randomly. It is as surprising for us as it is for you.]

Adrian wasn’t sure how much of it he believed. Honestly, if he knew this would happen, he would have gone for the bone-scale armor from the start.

Now he didn’t have enough bones to craft it. He could only make more reinforced pelt armor cards.

"Wait... these are cards. Why the hell am I complaining about it?" Adrian laughed and smacked his forehead.

As he did, he could hear a displeased ancestor cuss in his head.

"Music to my ears," he smirked, rubbing his hands together.

After a few hours, it was no longer music to his ears. He could combine the same cards.

Adrian had been working fast to make more armor. He wanted to finish everything quickly since he wanted to create a legendary-tier armor before nightfall, as there was no way to tell the time and he didn’t know when the settlement would arrive.

Because he was in a hurry, he did not take the same care as he did with the first armor. His cuts were rougher, the bone pieces were not placed as neatly, and his knots were not as tight.

When he placed the second armor on the crafting table, it turned into a card, but the name was different: [Poor Quality Reinforced Pelt Armor card].

The name was different, but the tier was the same, so he tried combining the cards from the first batch and the new one. However, the cards didn’t combine since they were ’different’ cards of the same tier!?

"...what? Fuck it, I can make more of them."

This time he put all of his effort like he did the first time. Apparently... he ended up doing too good of a job, and he got a bunch of [Fine Reinforced Pelt Armor cards].

He used all the resources at hand, trying to recreate any of the batches... but failed.

Some armors were named "Crude," some "Basic," some "Fine," and one even came out as "Rough." Even when two armors looked almost the same, just because of the quality tag, he couldn’t combine them.

Just like that, his dream of getting a legendary armor set was crushed into dust.

[Look at the bright side, boy. You can make seven epic-tier armors!]

"...I guess—"

He had barely said that when he heard someone scream outside.
