Chapter 5: Spend The Night With A Dead Body

Rebecca’s POV

As I was dragged toward the line of sleek, black vehicles, I noticed the body of the Alpha King’s late wife. She had been carried out of the library and was now being placed carefully inside one of the cars, her dead body completely covered in a white cloth. Right behind her, another warrior carried the heavy piece of iron Monica claimed I had used to kill the Queen. It was sealed inside a clear, waterproof bag, labeled as evidence of my supposed crime.

I expected to be thrown into the back seat of a car, but instead, the guards dragged me to the rear of the vehicle. My heart stopped as they popped the boot open.

"No! Please!" I shouted, panic twisting my stomach as they pushed me toward the dark, cramped space. "I’m scared of tight spaces! Please... please don’t lock me in there!"

I cried and thrashed against their grip, but my weak, broken body was no match for them. They shoved me inside, and the boot slammed shut, plunging me into absolute darkness.

The air felt tight and suffocating. I panicked, my breathing coming in short, terrifying gasps. Trying to calm my racing heart, I closed my eyes tightly and tried to think of a good memory—a happy time from my past to distract me from the tight space. But as I searched my mind, a bitter realization hit me. I had none. My entire life under Alpha Kelvin’s roof had been a miserable nightmare of abuse and neglect. There wasn’t a single good memory to save me.

The engine roared to life, and the car started to move.

I kept my eyes closed in the dark, my body trembling with every bump in the road. Suddenly, a soft voice echoed inside my mind. It was my wolf. She spoke softly, trying her best to comfort me and soothe the terror freezing my veins. I focused entirely on her voice, breathing through the intense pain in my chest as the vehicle sped up, leaving the Blood Moon Pack far behind.

The journey felt endless. It took almost two hours of driving before I finally felt the car slow down and come to a complete stop.

A few moments later, the boot clicked and swung open. The bright, blinding lights from the massive mansion ahead flared into the dark space, forcing me to shield my eyes. The guards reached in and roughly dragged me out of the boot, dumping me onto the paved driveway.

Looking up, I realized we had arrived at the Alpha King’s territory—the Full Moon Pack.

Guards were positioned everywhere, standing like stone statues around the courtyard. I watched their hardened expressions crumble into grief and anger as the covered body of the Queen was carefully brought out of the car. Nearby, a group of maids immediately broke into loud, heartbroken cries at the sight of her covered body.

Alpha King Kaden didn’t say a word. He didn’t even look back at me. He just walked away, his towering frame disappearing through the grand entrance of the mansion.

Then, a guard grabbed my arm and dragged me forward. This time, I didn’t struggle. My energy was entirely spent, and there was no point in fighting. I closed my eyes, assuming they were taking me straight to a dark, damp dungeon.

But we passed right by the stairs leading down. Instead, they took me straight into the main mansion, walking deeper into the luxurious upper halls.

My heart began to race wildly against my ribs. Why are they taking me up here? Is the Alpha King going to have sex with me tonight? While the dead body of his wife is still warm?

The guards stopped at a set of large doors and pushed me into a room. frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓

I stumbled inside, looking around in confusion. It was a beautiful, incredibly fancy room, but my eyes quickly locked onto a large portrait hanging on the wall. It was a painting of the late Queen. Looking closer, I noticed perfume bottles, elegant dresses, and other feminine items arranged neatly around the space.

This wasn’t a prison cell. It was her personal chamber.

I furrowed my brow, a cold dread settling in my chest. Why on earth had they brought me here?

Suddenly, the heavy doors opened, and a tall, stern man walked into the room. The guards immediately bowed their heads in respect, murmuring, "Beta."

I swallowed hard, my throat completely dry. He had to be the Alpha King’s Beta.

The Beta didn’t acknowledge me. Instead, he reached into his jacket, pulled out a thick metal collar, and held it out to one of the guards.

My eyes widened as I instantly recognized what it was. A wolf-suppressing choker. It was forged with dark magic designed to completely cut a werewolf off from her inner animal. With that choker around my neck, I would never be able to shift, and my accelerated healing would completely slow down.

I instinctively tried to move away, but the guards stepped forward, their eyes flashing with rage. "Stay still," one warned coldly, "or we will do this the hard way."

I froze as the guard snapped the heavy metal collar around my neck. The moment the lock clicked, a painful shock shot through my veins. Deep inside me, my wolf let out a muffled, agonizing whimper before fading into total silence. I felt completely weakened, stripped of the only comfort I had left.

Just then, the door opened again. Four guards walked into the chamber, carefully carrying a stretcher between them.

I looked down, and my breath caught in my throat. It was the late Queen. Her body had been thoroughly cleaned, the blood washed away from her pale skin, but her stomach was still visibly swollen with her unborn child. The guards lifted her gently and placed her onto the center of the large bed.

Horror seized me. I began to tremble violently, looking from the dead Queen to the empty spaces of the room.

The Beta finally turned his cold, unreadable eyes to me.

"You will spend the night here beside the Queen," he said coldly. "Pray that her spirit doesn’t choke the life out of you before dawn. The dead have a way of seeking vengeance in this house."

And just like that, before I could even scream, he turned and walked out, locking the door behind him.

Leaving me completely alone with a corpse.
