Chapter 35: Taking Her Home

Kaden’s POV

I completely ignored him. Keeping my grip tight on Rebecca’s body, I walked right past him, the heavy front doors flying open as I stepped out onto the driveway.

"Kaden! Answer me!" Kane yelled, his furious footsteps pounding against the stone steps as he chased after us. He grabbed my shoulder, trying to force me to turn around. "What did you do to her?!"

Logan instantly stepped between us, pushing Kane’s hand away. "Alpha Kane, stop," Logan muttered. "She is dead. She passed away from her infected wounds overnight." fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com

Kane froze, his hand dropping to his side. The fierce rage on his face instantly vanished, replaced by raw, hollow shock. He stared blankly at Rebecca’s lifeless face peeking out from the blanket, and a visible wave of deep pain filled his eyes.

"Kaden... she was innocent," Kane spoke, his voice cracking as he looked up at me with pure disgust. "She didn’t do it."

A bitter, defensive anger flared up in my chest, desperately trying to mask the suffocating weight in my stomach. I scoffed, glaring back at him. "And how the fuck do you know that, Kane? Are you defending a murderer now?"

"I have my indications!" Kane snapped, stepping right up to my face, completely unafraid of my dominant aura. "I know things you refused to look at because you were blinded by revenge! But it doesn’t matter anymore, does it? You wouldn’t listen. And now, you have the blood of an innocent girl on your hands."

With a look of utter disappointment, Kane turned on his heel and walked away, his shoulders slumped as he disappeared back into the mansion.

I stood there, a deep, sickening unease twisting in my gut. Innocent? Why did his words make my chest tighten to the point of agony? I shook my head, forcing the thoughts away as I looked down at Logan. "Is the jet ready?"

"Yes, Alpha King," Logan replied quickly, opening the door of the SUV. "The pilot is ready at the private runway. It will only take a thirty-minute flight to reach the Blood Moon Pack."

I climbed into the back seat, holding Rebecca securely against my chest.

Within five minutes, we arrived at the private airfield. The luxury jet’s turbines were already humming loudly against the morning air.

As I stepped out of the SUV, Logan walked beside me, his brow furrowed in deep confusion. "Alpha King... if she was an executed criminal, why are we doing all this? Why don’t we just throw her body into the forest and let the scavengers have it? Why take her back to her father?"

A toxic, fiercely protective snarl ripped from my throat. My wolf snapped his jaws inside my head, completely outraged. I didn’t even know why I was reacting this way, but the mere thought of leaving her beautiful, flawless skin to rot in a dirty forest made my blood boil.

"Hold your tongue, Logan," I growled angrily.

Reaching the top of the jet’s stairs, the reality of her cold, stiffening form against my skin was tearing my sanity apart piece by piece. I couldn’t bear to hold her like a trophy any longer.

"Take her," I ordered quietly, handing the blanket-wrapped body over to my Beta. "Place her in the private bedroom suite at the back of the cabin. Lay her on the bed. Gently."

"Yes, Alpha King," Logan murmured, taking her with absolute care and walking toward the rear bedroom suite.

I walked into the main cabin and sank heavily into an oversized leather seat, rubbing my throbbing temples. A moment later, Logan returned and took his seat directly across from me.

The jet began to move down the runway, lifting off into the gray morning sky. A thick, heavy silence hung in the air between us, the quiet cabin perfectly matching the empty, broken feeling deep inside my chest.

I didn’t know what I was feeling, but a crushing sense of total defeat was definitely one of them. Was this pain? Real, agonizing pain? I just couldn’t explain it to myself.

Thirty minutes flew by like a blur. The jet came down, smoothly landing on the runway bordering the Blood Moon Pack territory. Looking out the window, I could see the pack’s border warriors already shifting out of the way. The moment they recognized the royal symbol on the private jet, they cleared the field, bowing their heads in deep respect as the aircraft came to a stop.

The stairs lowered, and I stepped out first into the morning air. The gathered warriors immediately dropped to one knee. Behind me, Logan stepped out of the cabin, carefully carrying Rebecca’s blanket-wrapped body in his arms.

I watched the crowd out of the corner of my eye. The second Logan came out with the body, the eyes of every single warrior widened in total shock. A collective gasp went through them, their eyes locking onto the white, lifeless face peeking through the dark blanket. A young female pack warrior stepped forward, her hands shaking badly as she took the body from Logan’s arms.

Their head guard had already arranged a car on the runway. I climbed into the back seat without a word, the heavy silence following me like a shadow. Within five minutes, the car drove through the grand gates of the Blood Moon pack house, the tires crunching loudly against the gravel.

As the car drove into the yard, I noticed Alpha Kelvin and his family were already waiting on the front steps, with a few elite guards beside them. They must have received word the moment my jet crossed the borders.

I stepped out of the car, my heavy Alpha aura flaring instinctively. Kelvin, his wife, and his daughter immediately bowed deeply, their eyes glued to the ground in respect. But the formal greeting was cut short as the female guard stepped out from the second vehicle, carefully lifting Rebecca’s body and carrying it up the steps.

With a dull thud, her lifeless form was placed onto the cold stone floor right in front of them.

I watched Alpha Kelvin’s face closely, looking for any reaction. The moment his eyes fell upon the bundle of blankets and his daughter’s pale, unbreathing face, his eyes widened in genuine shock. He froze, staring blankly at her lifeless form before slowly raising his head to look back at me.

He was her father. He was the man who had given her life. I stood there, clenching my jaw, waiting for him to cry. I waited for him to scream, to rage, to show even a single bit of heartbreaking pain. I wanted him to do something—anything—to prove that he felt the pain of losing his own child. She was an accused murderer, yes. She had supposedly taken away my entire future. But she was still his daughter.

Instead, the old Alpha’s face quickly turned into a mask of cold indifference. He didn’t shed a single tear. His voice didn’t even shake. freewebnovel.cσ๓

"We will throw her in the forest," Alpha Kelvin said simply, waving a dismissive hand toward the body as if she were nothing more than a piece of garbage. "Let the wild beasts have her. She does not deserve a burial in our pack grounds."

My frown deepened, a sickening wave of horror and fury twisting in my gut. I stared at him in absolute disbelief. No questions. He didn’t ask how she died. He didn’t ask what killed her. There were no tears, no demands for an explanation, no grief. There was absolutely nothing.
